Yes but not too big a fire as it will then start beeping continuously and that is really annoying until the carbon monoxide takes effectRetro_Bunny wrote: »So if I light a small fire under it each evening, it'll be happy and I can sleep in peace

Smokeless coal is the answer, no smoke and no CO.

Mine started beeping in the middle of the night once. The batteries were not replaceable though. I wrapped it up in a towel and put it in the garden shed for the night.:Dwhitesatin wrote: »Turns out it was the combined carbon monoxide one under the stairs.0 -
Don't talk to me about smoke alarms. I'm sat at my desk at work, bags under my eyes, after a third consecutive night where both smoke alarms, upstairs and downstairs, have sounded, all three times between 3am and 5am, duration any time between 20 minutes and two and a half bl***y hours (that was last night).
They are mains powered. I hoovered both alarms but have yet to replace the back up batteries. They have been purchased this lunchtime and I'll be installing these tonight when I get in.
Please, please can my family and I get an undisturbed night's sleep! My son started school this week (he's 4) and I feel so sorry for him, woken up and scared at silly hours of the morning

If the battery is low, they should only chirp once every so often. If they are sounding fully for long periods, then something else is wrong and you should have someone take a look at them.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!
