Replacing a front windscreen

First, I don't have to, but I would like to, due to quite a few scratches.

Car is 2007 Astra with auto windscreen wipers.

Issues, costs and where to get it done without getting ripped off please.

  • what kind of scratches?

Have you considering polishing it with carpro ceriglass with some rayon pads on a rotary polisher?

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to give it a go next weekend.

Small scratches can be polished out. Several kits available. frost.co.uk £25 or so.

    What is causing the scratches?

  • If you know any local independent car dealers/workshops ask them who they use, the small indy windscreen fitters are way under the ludicrous pricing of companies who need to budget for saturation advertising.

You might find the indy charges barely more than the usual excess.

Do you have windscreen cover on your insurance? It might be handy if those scratches turn into a full blown crack. ;)

So save £150/200 with a windscreen claim and pay an extra £100 plus each year for the next 5 years ?

    Doesn't sound sensible to me.

Windscreen claims do not affect your no claims bonus!
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Not necessarily. Depends on your insurer's policy. You need to check your policy to find out what the situation is.

But a windscreen claim can affect future premiums like any other claim on your record, and they have to be disclosed to future insurers over the next 3 to 5 years depending on the length of history required.

My insurance wanted a £100 excess if I claimed for a new screen and I would have had to declare a claim at renewal.
OP, do a google search for "cheap windscreen 07 Astra" adding your area and you should find a cheap price. I found a screen for just my van for £120 fitted at my house to suit me.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
  • Done quotes with and without a windscreen claim earlier in the year and it was about £3 of a difference.

    Don't think so.
