Incapacity age addition

As here: http://www.welfarerights.net/benefits-guides/Retirement-Pension
Invalidity Addition
"Paid if you had an Invalidity Allowance shortly before you reached state pension age. If you become entitled to your pension on or after 16 September 1985, the total of any Additional Pension and contracted-out deductions will be taken away from your Invalidity Addition. Anything left over will be paid to you as an Invalidity Addition."
I'm afraid I still don't understand this. Which Additional Pension is it referring to? On my statement the first Additional State pension (ASP1) quoted says it is £71.79, less COD of £71.51 =£0.28. It then adds figures based on a) earnings 5/4/97-5/4/02 (ASP2) and earnings/credits from 6/4/02 (ASP3) coming to £22 ASP in total. So how would that affect things ?0 -

I had spells of sickness with the same problem from my early 30s, sometimes it would debilitate me for a few weeks sometimes a few months. I can't remember if I got incapacity benefit or not, I don't know what Statutory Sick Pay is maybe I got that instead and that's the explanation for me not getting the Age Addition - do you get IB if you're still in work? obviously it's a long time ago now so it's all a bit of a blur.0 -

You would only get IB once your SSP had run out after 28 weeks. If you did receive it, but then returned to work for a long period, then a claim after age 44 would not attract the age addition - it would need to be 'linked' to an earlier claim.
(Note this is different from the pension IB addition as noted by xylophone.)0 -

I thinks thats probably the explanation then, thanksjacques_chirac wrote: »(Note this is different from the pension IB addition as noted by xylophone.)
I've only just realised that now you've pointed it out, so I still don't understand if |I should have been given something for it as I will be on IB until my actual retirement.0 -

You will not receive the pension addition until your pension kicks in0 -

According to my pension statement I will not getting any Incapacity Age Addition even though i will be on IB until my retirement age. This is what started me digging about this whole issue. As I don't understand the statement about it that Xylophone mentioned I'm a bit wary of phoning the pension service about it in case they reduce my pension, hopefully Xylophone or someone can clarify. As this has deviated from the benefit to the pure pension side of things maybe I should probably repost this element in the pensions thread.0 -
As far as I can see (but I am no expert on benefits- you would have to check with the Pensions Service):
You are on long term IB? This ceases at SPA?
Even though long term IB ceases at SPA, because you had been on it, you might be entitled to an additional amount of state pension of £6 a week if you were between 35 and 44 on the first day of incapacity or £10.70 a week if you were 35 or under on the first day of incapacity?
However, your weekly COD/ASP would be deducted from these amounts.
In your particular case, since both your COD and your ASP are far greater than these amounts, you wouldn't be entitled to any addition at all, even if you met the age at first day of incapacity criterion?
But as I say, I am just trying to interpret what I see above- check with the experts so that you do not miss out on any money to which you are properly entitled.0
