I'm not sure if 'rooting' can be discussed here? If so then go ahead, if not then don't bother as i don't want the thread locked.
Anyway, the wife has a Galaxy S3 on o2 but is considering moving to another network. I have an Orange SIM which she tried in but it needs an unlock code.
I believe you can unlock the phone to other networks through rooting. If we can discuss this then how do you go about it?
If we can't, then how else do you unlock the phone & how much would this cost?
She has it PAYG & has owned it for about 12 months.

O2 can unlock it for a £15 fee i believe.
If you want to unlock it via the method on XDA then the phone needs to be on Android Jellybean 4.1.1
If you're on an updated version then you;d have to downgrade to do the unlock trick.

I'm not sure. I thought it was £15 for all phones?
Might be worth giving O2 a call and see what they say.0 -
Be careful the unlock methods can be version specific and a number have relocked after an OS update .
Rooting is not unlocking a phone though some methods may require root to access a lower OS level .
Root voids warranty is the critical part of it all .
