Camera failed out of warranty, seller has closed down

Hello,
another SOGA question!

My £600 dslr (now worth £300) has failed due to a camera error 2.5 years after purchase (1 year warranty). The store has now closed down (Independent Scottish store).
I've sent it to the Sony repair centre for a free assessment.
They probably won't be able to repair it (based on what other's have gone through with the same error).

According to SOGA, do I now deal with sony in terms of requesting a partial refund (I doubt they would replace it)?

Can't imagine where else to go.

Thank you.

2.5 years old with 1 yr warranty, I wouldn't hold my breath.
I am not a cat (But my friend is)
  • Did you pay for the camera by credit card? If so, you may have a claim against the lender, but you have no rights against Sony.

Are you able to prove that the fault is inherent?

Your soga rights are with the retailer....which has now gone.

OP, read MSE's Section 75 Refunds article if you paid by credit card or used some other form of consumer credit.

Sorry didnt see the last post about Section 75 Refunds article:

So I can claim for a partial refund from the CC company?

The CC co has the same responsibility as the seller.

This means you will probably still have to prove the fault is inherent, but if found so, then the CC co has to provide a remedy just as the seller would if he still existed.

Speak to your card issuer and ask them what you need to be doing... as outlined in that article.

    Thank you!
    I'll do this.

Sony should come back saying it's an inherent problem so there may be a chance.

    Thanks, again!

Sony won't come back and say it's an inherent problem as they are not going to admit faults, you are going to have to get this report yourself.
