No trace of delayed BA flight! What can I do?

Hello, everyone.

I was flying with BA from Venice to London Gatwick last weekend, when the flight got canceled and then, on the next day, the next flight was delayed by 4 hours. I'm preparing to claim compensations for the two flights, but apparently there's no record of the second flight. What can I do?

The flight I'm talking about is BA 2589 which departed at 19:00 (local time) from Venice and landed at 19:40 (local time), even though we were told the night before that it'd depart at 15:00.

To make things more complicated, there was another BA flight (BA 2585), whose original departure was later than my flight's original departure, which was also delayed at the same time as mine.

Now, there are a few things I find rather suspicious:
  1. There is NO record of flight BA 2589 happening on August 26th on FlightStats and the likes.
  2. However, according to FlightStats, the other delayed flight, BA 2585, departed and landed exactly one hour later than my flight.
  3. We were given new boarding passes whose data corresponded to the original, canceled flight -- Except for our seats. Among other things, the depart time was 22:30 on the 25th of August.
  4. I'm not sure whether there really was another flight. The other delayed flight was supposed to board later from the same gate as mine, as evidenced in a photo I took of the flight information monitors around the airport. However, all the people in the room were from my flight -- I had been with these people for 20 hours in this hardship so I could remember their faces! Plus, I was among the last to board and the room was left pretty much empty.
I don't really like the smell of this since it would appear as if there is no evidence that I would also be entitled to compensation for the second flight. Any advice?

    Firstly, please try to post on the BA thread rather than start your own. If only as a courtesy to other users. (If we all started our own threads for each flight, the entire forum would become unusable.)

    Second, write to BA and make a claim in the normal way. They are generally playing fairly, and will explain what is what.

    Third, are you sure the flight you were originally booked on was cancelled and not just delayed until the following day? Regardless, you can't make two claims for one delayed journey. If the flight was cancelled, and you were rerouted on a subsequent alternative flight - which was itself delayed - then you don't get two bits of the compensation cherry, you greedy guzzler! One claim for 250 Euros, with hotel expenses for the overnight delay.

    Sorry if I wasn't supposed to post here. I was aware of the BA-specific thread, but I thought that was meant for people to report on the outcome of their claims.

    Vauban, the flight was indeed canceled. Are you sure about not being able to claim for a rerouted flight that was delayed for more than 3 hours? I've read a lot about this subject, and I haven't found anything that suggests that I'm not entitled to a second compensation. As greedy as I may seem to be, I really want to make them pay for the way they handled the situation.

    I guess you could look at it that compensation is due to passengers that paid for a seat on the affected flight. You did not pay for a seat on each flight. You paid for a seat on one flight and then the airline paid itself/allowed you on for free on the next flight

    and if you look at the BA schedule there is no BA2589 on a Monday so sounds like your flight was delayed from the Sun to the Mon

    @richardw, I'm going to post the outcome of my claim to that thread anyway. As a courtesy to the many users subscribed to that thread, I'd rather keep the noise down -- Would you mind telling me what you know here, and then I'll include it in my future message?

    Plus, I don't really know what to post there right now, since my problem has already been addressed in this thread. I think it'd be best if I simply posted the outcome of my claim.
