I parked in a free car park that was meant to be for the local doctor's surgery. I had to nip into hospital next door, when I returned I had a parking ticket from Smart parking. Which I ignored, two letters later, still ignoring, now letters threatening court....
I know I can ignore them.... but does anyone ever get taken to court? I would say stuff 'em, but the letters are in my hubby's name and he is more anxious....

Yes they do take people to court, it is though a minority. Some they win by default (ie defendant failed to respond to summons); some are defended and they don't show up to; some they show up to a lose - one case in particular the judge too ka disliking to their practices (can't find a link to the case at the moment though).
In short, defenses lie around the fact they have no authority to issue 'fines' and have not incurred actual losses from the non-chargeable car park.
