I want a US grinder. Power query.

Options
I want to buy a meat grinder (not just a mincer, it needs to be able to handle bone too).

The UK is seriously lagging behind the US in this field.

If I managed to find a way to get a US one sent here, would it be safe/feasible to use it with a power converter given that it's around 1800 watts (not sure what the volt rating is).

The converters I've seen are largely for smaller travel type appliances.

Just use a 240volt to 110volt transformer, the type (coloured yellow) that the building (and many others) trade uses.

My Oh has pee'd me off for the last time. ;)

Just kidding. :) My dog is on a raw food diet and it's costly buying ready ground meat, it would be cheaper to make my own. You need to provide a balance, bone needs to be included for calcium.

Remember import duty and RM charges to collect it and high delivery costs due to the weight. Best of luck working that out because finding the correct category takes some doing. I did have a phone number for the customs department on an old phone but didn't use it more than once so never transferred the number.

It would be cheaper to get another dog, rather than a dog that's like a health freak nut of the dog world.

Have you tried looking in Europe such as Germany?

Actually I'd forgotten about import charges tbh.

Loads of people feed their dog raw meat. Mine has developed allergies after years on commercial pet food and is only thriving now he's been taken off that and put on fresh foods. He just doesn't like bones which is why they need to be ground.

Health freak nut........how very dare you. :p:rotfl:

Is Calcium available in tablet or powder form as a supplement?

    Check some of these links.

Perhaps Health Food stores sell it for human and animal use.

That might be a cheaper option than buying an expensive grinder and transformer.

The bone fragments help keep teeth clean too, unfortunately powder form wouldn't do that.

Son is in Canada & USA with work at the moment, he may be able to sort something out. If not, I'll need to give up on the idea as it would clearly be too costly to get delivered, and that's before I even add on converter costs too.

Oh well, back to the drawing board. :)

    Thanks all.

Appliances from the US with motors do not always do well in Europe, even if the voltage is correctly converted. At 1800 Watts, this is very probably an AC motor.. You need to bear in mind that US ac is 60Hz and our ac is 50Hz. Putting 50Hz on a 60Hz motor will work in that the motor should turn albeit at 5/6ths of the speed. But because it is going slower, it will draw more current and quite posibly it will burn out
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

Yes I expect this is probably going to end up being a non-starter. I needed to explore the option though.

Other people get excited about KitchenAids........I just wanted an American meat grinder. :D
