I had a similar problem with our new machine twice.

It turned out that the machine was not empying properly. In our case it was a blocked drain. The washing machine was not at fault at all.

Try emptying the water out of the washing machine and running it with the drain going to a bucket.

have you checked the filter as sometimes this stops the machine from working if there is a blockage - hope this helps

Have you tried looking in the handbook which comes with the machine. My book has a list at the back telling what different combinations of flashing light mean. If not google the make/model and lights.

    Hi nannu
I had a similar problem with a Bosch machine which had seen 3yrs solid work with washing the kids clothes. The drum wasn't spinning even though the water was going in and pumping out. I looked on the web and found a few sites which have forums on how to fix domestic appliances. I put the make, model number and problem in as a search and the same answer kept coing up time and time again. They suggested that the carbon brushes on the motor would most likely be worn out. I bought some new ones from a local spare shop and fitted these myself following excellent instructions from the same website and hey presto, the machine started working again. I was nearly going to go out and buy a new machine but in the end it cost me less than £20 to fix and it wasn't difficult (the hardest part was tipping the machine over to get access to the motor.

    hope this helps

If the machine has been used a fair amount after two years there is a reasonable chance that the motor brushes might be worn out, usually get a set for £15 - £20 and no big drama to fit if you are handy with a screwdriver, gets a bit mucky though with the carbon dust.
The motor is usually underneath the drum and accessed by tilting the washer back, make sure you unplug it if you do it yourself (obvious but you would not believe how many forget).

if its not spinning and water is not draining it could be a sock or something small iblocking the hose at the very bottom of the machine, to fix it usually involves taking a metal clip off the hose and pulling it clear to remove the item blocking it.

This is something I'm absolutely passionate about. It's unfair not to tell people what the fault code means (that's what the flashing LED on the Indesit is) and it leaves no choice but to call the manufacturer ONLY and pay whatever ransom they demand. That's not consumer choice, that's consumer restriction and the creation of a monopoly.

In case you didn't get that, I repair or am involved in the appliance repair industry and they won't give use, the trade, the meaning of fault codes so the public that PAY for these machines have no chance. It's not fair and it's not right.

There's an article on the subject from this link and a whole load more on there if you snoop about.

Either post the fault message here and I'll try to tell you what it means or post on UKW (quicker most likely) and one of the guys will help you with it.

For Indesit/Hotpoint/Ariston which are really all the same thing we need to know how many flashes you get before a pause.

    Hi nannu,

There will be a pulse count on the flash, the machine uses EVO2 software as Indesit call it, so it uses that to tell you what its problem is.
