Giving up flat and being No fixed Abode

  • Getting a job would be easier up there than what it is down here , and thus the reason why i haven't applied for jobs up there as what happens if i get an interview straight away and they want me to start straight away , its not impossible ! but it is 225 miles away !

Oh for goodness sake stop making excuses.

If you got an interview straight away then what's stopping you attending - its not like they would ask you to attend within the hour.

Do you even attempt to seek work when you go up there?
are you a father ? if so what if your partner moved 225 miles away ? how would that make you feel ? better still what would the child think of you taking them away from there father ?

    Its common sense really

god some people on here are not very clever !

For your information I am a parent and my partner moved that distance then yes I wouldn't have been very happy but I would be more happy about that distance than if he moved to a different country.

I know down here you can put yourself on the Home Swap register, and see if anyone wants your flat in exchange for theirs. Don't know if it works across borders though.

BTW it doesn't have to be a two way swap, it can be more complicated than that, ie A wants B's property but A's property is no good for B, however it would be perfect for C, so A moves to B, C moves to A, and B ends up in C.

  • Hi i saw this thread and thought the op was talking about me lol

I moved from east midlands to scotland only 3 months ago, not for a boyfriend but for other reasons. I too gave up my council flat- this was part of the reason why and i wont go into the details.

Its up to you but i would be 100% sure by checking with the job centre or whatever dwp department to check how you affect whoever you stay with. I'm quite lucky i was out of a job for over a year so i came here on the dole the people i live with work full time so i didn't affect their benefits at all.

Within 5 weeks of moving i got a job, part time initially but now been made full time.

Have you thought of getting on national express, loads cheaper than the train thats how i came up its 8 hours though but thats up to you, there are some car sharing websites out there you could try those too.

Good luck with whatever you do.

I agree with you not wanting to move in after 7 months, esp with a child involved.

But i think the very best thing to do would be to get a job up there. That way you'd be able to rent a room somewhere and avoid all the problems you mention.

How long does it take you to drive up? Surely you could be available for a next-day interview? Does your area of work really want to interview prospective candidates the same day?

If they want you to start straight away, I'm sure your gf or mate wouldn't mind putting you up for a week while you find a room to rent?

and megabus as they do the bus from Meadowhall and other places for as little as a pound. Just remember we only live once. Make sure your back is covered, but the saying goes somewhere along the lines of it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all
