  • I think my list covers everything everyone mentions, because I have moved 5 times in 10 years and encountered many of the problems, and believe me some of them make your life a real misery. So starting at most important:-

Area - you can change the house to some degree, but not your neighbours. Football flags hanging outside windows, a rough looking pub, people hanging around drinking tinnies during the day are a no no.

Garden - must have decent outside space. Everyone needs space away from others, a decent outside space helps with this.

Parking - must have a drive. Saves issues with cars everywhere. Even had allocated parking next to someone else's house and had issues with them and their visitors parking on my parking!

I think looking at the above I need a field and build my own place! :)

Strong smell curry/cabbage/wet dog makes it harder to imagine it as my place.
  • no off road parking
    garden overlooked

anything else I thought would put me off obviously isn't the case as we are in the process of buying a little house with a tiny kitchen, just off a main road but the garden is amazing :T

    Being overlooked
    Small garden
Small rooms (kitchen, lounge and bedrooms)
    Being on an estate
    Near neighbours
    No driveway

Decoration, and kitchen and bathroom fittings wouldn't worry us as they can be changed (if the price is right).
  • Parking problems, being overlooked (house and/or garden) and a small kitchen would all put me off.

Tiny galley kitchen/on main road. Also windows/roof in poor condition and I wouldn't want a large garden.

This is done through the eyes of a renter, which I am.

    - Chavvy neighbours. I remember going to visit a house, only to find the neighbourhood kids literally standing on the doorstep, with bikes dumped in the garden. I don't want to fight through over peoples kids and junk to get to my own front door. Didn't bother going in to look.
    - First come, first served parking. I want, at the very least, an allocated space. Last thing I want is to be parked 100m away, in the rain, in the dark, in February.
    - Combined kitchen/living rooms. I want the kitchen in it's own room. I know some people love having them together, "it's so much easier to socialise!" but it's not my thing at all.
    - A bathroom with no bath.
    - No white goods in the kitchen. An oven, fridge and washing machine needs to be included for me to even consider a property.
Because it's fun to have money!

    Price.

If they price is too high I wouldn't even click on the rightmove listing let alone get as far as viewing to see what the garden/neighbours/parking are like!
