Be vary wary of this BG offer. Ten minutes will be taken for the engineer to get out of his van, into your house and get his tools out!

That leaves 20 minutes to diagnose and fix the boiler, including getting any spares!!

Unless it is just a fuse blown, you will nearly always be charged the next rate of £249, IIRC.

The next rate is £199 for up to 2 hours including parts and labour - depending on the part required, it can be quite a good deal!

Use a local independent GSR RGI who knows your make and model of boiler.
Is it a combi? Could be just a faulty divertor valve?

That would be my guess,we had a similar problem.Valve gets sticky and then the motor doesn't has enough power to move it on to the next position.

Replacing the motor in the diverter valve is a easy DIY fix and only costs a few pounds.

If its a combi he won't have one of those and the symptoms reported suggest a combi. His diverter will be internal to the boiler.

    So

OP - what is the make and model of your boiler?

    Cheers
