i think asda uniform is great, at least if they get wrecked on first wear your not out of pocket too much, i also find they shrink though by 1-2 sizes so i always buy 1-2 sizes bigger than i need then wash before wear and hay ho they fit right.Lightbulb moment 01/10/2007:eek: £11531.29Proud to be dealing with my debtsDFW NERD #7200

In the two years since my lad started school, we have had various bits of school uniform from M&S, Asda, Tesco.
I agree that the Asda t-shirts shrink badly (particularly if tumble dried, which the label says you can do) and the cheapest trousers go bobbly after about 3 washes. The red t-shirts and sweatshirts fade very quickly to a strange dusky reddish colour, but the jumpers are quite nice for the price (about £4).
Tesco is great for adjustable waist trousers and shorts - my lad is long and tall, but very slim so these are great. You can get a pair for about £4 and they wash and tumble dry lovely. I don't iron anything and he doesn't look rumpled.
The M&S t-shirts were the best quality (and the dearest). However, as more often than not within a few wears he has indelible whiteboard pen all down his front, I actually buy the Asda ones with a view to them being recyclable as dusters etc - they are so cheap that it doesn't break my heart to cut them up once they are too mucky to wear to school. The M&S trousers vary depending on how much you pay - there are some for about £4 that go bobbly very quickly, but the £7 ones are good.
Tesco value black socks were rubbish, faded to grey very quickly. Have since found out that we don't have to have black socks, so now he just wears novelty ones from Primark (£1 for 2 or 3 pairs).
Ask yourself how your child wears their uniform - if they wreck things quickly anyway, may as well just get the cheap 'n' cheerful ones. M&S definitely better overall but an expensive option to bin if they get pen etc all over them.

I bought my son's school trousers at tesco - they were £1.50 each - reduced to £1 each in the sale, I was them and tumble dry them all the time and they look like new! Would definately recommend them - wasnt too keen on the asda stuff - got his white polo shirts from QS - £1 each and again they go in the drier and come out perfect - no shrinkage or anything!0 -
I find BHS stuff brilliant. Their charcoal grey trousers keep their colour really well - although I try not to tumble dry. Shirts are excellant especailly the blue ones for my younger son. They often have 3 for 2 fairly regularly. Another plus is that they have uniform in stock all yearand they go to quite large sizes- I can still get trousers and shirts for my 14 year old. Rest of the uniform comes from a designated ( expensive) store - but school second hand sales are good.
BHS underwear is good- my skinny husband ( aged 50 something) thinks their largest size boy's boxers are the best available!0 -
I find the George School Uniforms excellent. My DDs wear the bootleg grey trousers in the winter, at £2.50 a pair. They wash up lovely and last them a season. I always stock up when they start selling them as they sell out so quickly.
The only problem I have now is that my local Asda does not stock yellow gingham summer dresses, which their school wears. Every blinkin colour except yellow.

Some of those summer dresses are made from fabric that looks and feels like overalls that women in factories wear. I do think that when they are wearing them all day every day that letting skin breathe is more important than being coated in stuff we use to make saucepans non-stick!MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0

:rotfl: I bet he doesn't tell his mates
My girls are too big for Asdas kids uniform but I buy Asda smartprice ladies trousers for £5 for my 15yr old.
My 12 year old would fit into them probably as she's really skinny but she's got a 'I'm too good for Asda's clothes' thing going on at the moment :rolleyes:Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0
