Sky Fibre - any good?

Hi all,

Moving soon & our options for broadband at the new place are limited. It's a long way from the exchange so xDSL offerings look like they'll all be a bit slow, hence been looking into FTTC instead.

At the moment leaning towards Sky as they seem to be the only ones doing 12-month contracts with unlimited usage. However, I do have a few reservations as although Sky were brilliant at our previous property, they made a right mess of us moving to our current place, resulting in us switching to O2. (Yes, which has now been bought by Sky again! :rotfl:)

So anywway - thoughts, anyone who's with Sky for fibre broadband? Good, bad, ugly?

Would love to hear what you think - thanks in advance! :T

I'm happy, get close to 40/10Mbs. Never slows down and not had an outage in the 8 months I've had it.

Most of the problems I hear people having with Sky aren't anything to do with Sky really but rather Openreach !!!!!!ing things up.

I used to give Sky a lot of stick but I'd say generally speaking they're a pretty good ISP these days and if you have Sky TV then they do some pretty decent deals.

Sky and Talk Talk use BT's fibre, so it should all be similar. The only difference would be customer service/support.

All sounds positive - thanks folks! :T

Any other comments on Sky, positive or negative...?
  • Had sky Fibre for about 2 months, moved into rented accomodation, openreach lad was ex forces so had a good chat, fibre since then has been great, like TadleyBaggie ive been getting 40/10, and i average at about 4MB/sec download speed, so im more than happy because i download a lot of game content on steam, so all is well

  • This might seem like an odd post, it was a very strange conversation - but do double check the Sky fibre speeds against the standard Sky broadband speeds offered in the area. The only reason I say this is I have Sky unlimited broadband now and noticed that fibre had become available in my area so called them yesterday planning to switch to fibre and was told that if I made the change I could only expect half the speed that my current standard broadband offers - there were no explanations for this and the I spoke to had never heard of it before, it will probably not be seen by anyone else but just worth checking

Strange the small increases in some of these posts. I currently get just over 4mb. With fibre the websites said i should get 68mb.

When i do the same with the standard DLS i get told 3mb. So i think i may do better than 68mb?

    Maybe?
