I have never been on such a luxurious and amazing holiday ever. Fully inclusive, restaurants with full a la carte menu, unlimited drinks, breakfast buffet.... it was AMAZING.
It was expensive at £4k for 2 weeks but I would go back in a heartbeat if i could!
Excellence run the resort we are going to so hopefully we will enjoy it as much!0 -
Hey everyone! Thanks so much for all your posts and tips. We've decided on the Grand Bahia Principe Akumal for November, it just ticks all the boxes for us. Can't wait to visit the ruins and Akumal beach, we'll definitely be avoiding the organised rip off tours though.
I made us up a package without the use of a travel agent and it has saved us hundreds! If anyone is looking to book up, check out the hotel's own website. We got a huge discount by going direct to them! Also booked private transfers rather than a coach transfer. I know Thomas Cook get a lot of stick, but their flights were under £1000 for us both so over the moon with that0 -

Make sure to get a trip to Xel-Ha:

There's no real need to use the hotels organised tours, local buses and taxis tend to always be cheap and safe. The Mexicans are lovely people.
There are literally hundreds of places to visit within an hour or so of the hotel I've linked you to. Some of the best are listed on the link below:

The hotel itself is very clean, the staff are excellent and although the pictures make the beach look busy, it tends to always have plenty of space. The food here is also really good, even though it is all-inclusive, it does include visits to their own specialised restaurants, the Gourmet Arlequ!n does an amazing cream of garlic soup and brilliant beef tenderloin!
Xel-Ha looks unreal! It's just my boyfriend and I who are going, we don't have kids but we'll definitely be going here.
The food at GBP Akumal looks pretty damn good, as does the beach and pools. really looking forward to it.0 -
A little late now but I can highly reccommend El Dorado Seaside Suites. We went in June this year and are planning to go back next year also.
The hotel is adults only - great for us as we have been used to holiday's with children for years so this was a plesant change! It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0 -
We are also going to Mexico next year, in March, and after extensive research we decided on the Grand Palladium Colonial resort hotel in Akumal. This was partly influenced by being well aquainted with their hotels in Ibiza and having had many happy holidays in them.0

Would love to go there, way out of our budget though. Sob0 -

We have booked the same hotel for November too, so looking forward to the trip.
Can't wait to fly the Dreamliner.
Roll on mid November...:rotfl:0 -
I stayed at the Grand Sirenis near Akumal last nov/dec.
If you're after a "cheap" 5 star it's a great choice.
It's an all suite hotel, we upgraded to the Carribean view block.0 -

We fancied the Dreamliner but it worked out way cheaper to fly Thomas Cook and book the hotel etc separate.
The hotel looks lovely, countdown is on! Hope you have a lovely time.0
