Hello all, was just wondering if anyone has an recommendations for hotels in Mexico? We've never been before and feel a little overwhelmed with the choices. Any info would be much appreciated. Tripadvisor can be quite conflicting at times when it comes to reviews.
Thanks

I've been to Mexico many times - but the best hotel I stayed at in terms of price, location, activities etc is below:

Make sure to get a trip to Xel-Ha:

There's no real need to use the hotels organised tours, local buses and taxis tend to always be cheap and safe. The Mexicans are lovely people.
There are literally hundreds of places to visit within an hour or so of the hotel I've linked you to. Some of the best are listed on the link below:

The hotel itself is very clean, the staff are excellent and although the pictures make the beach look busy, it tends to always have plenty of space. The food here is also really good, even though it is all-inclusive, it does include visits to their own specialised restaurants, the Gourmet Arlequ!n does an amazing cream of garlic soup and brilliant beef tenderloin!0 -
It also depends if you want a nice relaxing time just two of you or if you have a family, or you are young and want the night life. If its a nice relaxing time no children we loved Excellence Riviera Cancun. We also loved Riu Palace Mexico.0

Its a big place, I know I used to live there. Assuming that you are looking at Cancun and the Riviera Maya coast then I'd suggest setting out what you want from the holiday first. Cancun is the place for nightlife, shopping, restaurants etc, whilst the Riviera Maya is more populated by large 5* all inclusives and more relaxed beaches. Of course both have a good mix and you can get good quality hotels for reasonable prices all along the coast. Do you want to visit Maya ruins or eco parks such as Xel-Ha, be sure to check distances in miles on a good map. I'd recommend the area near Playa Del Carmen and Akumal but until you work out what you want there is really so much choice.0

We''ve booked the Beloved Playa Mujeres for next Easter, looks like a quiet boutique resort which accepts children.
Having looked extensively through tripadvisor it really depends on how much entertainment you want, food quality, children and beach quality. And obviously budget!0 -
Easter? Quiet? In Cancun? Are you sure you have this right? In USA Easter is also known as Spring Break, a riotous holiday for teenagers and young adults. I had some great times during Spring Break in Cancun when I was there in my 20's, not so sure I'd go at that time with young family. Search Spring Break on google but be wary of checking the images!!

We're not going to Cancun, but Playa Mujeres. The hotel we are staying at has 100 rooms and for US guests costs over $400 per night. It is an expensive taxi toany form of nightlife. hopefully we'll be ok, I''ve read pretty much every review.0 -
Have you looked at a map? Its almost in the suburbs of Cancun, a very short and I'd suggest cheap taxi ride. Anyway I'm certainly not going to argue with you I hope you have a fantastic time in one of my favorite parts of the world, I'm sure you will.
I'm pretty sure there was a thread on the subject of hotels in Cancun at Spring Break a few months back, you may want to search for it.0 -
Thanks for your comments, but I really hope my extensive research is right. If you take a look at the website, it doesn't really look like the kind of place suited to spring breakers. It's about $50 return for a taxi to the hotel zone.

We went for our honeymoon and stayed at the Excellence Riviera Cancun (though closer to Playa Del Carmen).
I have never been on such a luxurious and amazing holiday ever. Fully inclusive, restaurants with full a la carte menu, unlimited drinks, breakfast buffet.... it was AMAZING.
It was expensive at £4k for 2 weeks but I would go back in a heartbeat if i could!0 -
