When moving house, should I switch to a new broadband provider?

Options
Im with orange and havent had many problems really: had one or two with laptop on wireless but got them solved. Mostly non wireless use now and its been OK. All I do is surf the net really. No gaming. DH uses it for his ipod too, and the we dont download that many other things.

I dont want to be offline for too long and we are moving at the end of the week. I have absolutely no idea if Im locked into a contract with Orange as I have been with them for about 3 years, but moved house 9 months since so wonder if that counts as a new contract.

I thought with Orange at least I have the box etc and will just have to wait for the line to be activated. Would it be any quicker to go with another (Cheaper) company?

it is most likely that since your last move was 9 months ago, Orange would tie you into a further 12 months due to you moving house, and your broadband connection with them (since you say you've been with them for 3 years)

With Zen internet you can move the contract with you at no cost I believe, but then it's only a monthly contract anyway.

But I do not think Orange will let you.
Transfer your Zen Broadband connection for FREE!

Zen Internet has launched ZenADSL Move making it easier for you to transfer your Broadband connection when you move house or business premises.

We are offering to ease the stress of moving premises for loyal customers by waiving the £40* activation fee normally required to set up new Zen Broadband accounts. In addition, Zen will also manage the whole transfer process on your behalf free of charge.

When you move premises, whether it is a home or business move, Broadband accounts cannot be automatically transferred because they are tied to the physical telephone line. Previously, you had to give 14 days notice to cancel your existing account, and on moving into the new building you then had to order a brand new Zen Broadband account and pay the standard activation fee.

... strange... how did Zen come into this, since the OP mentioned Orange - if they do not complete the contract they would be charged

I'd image the same would be true with Zen, especially within a 12 month period, as they wouldn't want to foot the bill for you moving twice in a year ;)
