Her behaviour has changed, which means she's realised her old tricks are no longer working - which is one huge step on the road to her finding out what does work - well done!
Please keep at it, don't give up now. It will really help if you can start to give her those small food rewards (if she will take them, so dogs are just so excited about being outside, they will igore food offered to them) When is is right beside you, this will encourage her to keep it up to get more rewards.
It may take a few months of this, but them more opportunities she gets to practise, the quicker she will learn. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
Thanks Raksha,
I have just taken this from your website:
"Does this sound like your dog?- Won't walk nicely on the lead, pulls you everywhere?
- Greets everybody by jumping up at them?
- Totally ignores you when you call him?"
Hopefully I will manage to tame the beast within her at some point.0 -
I saw this thread had been bumped so I thought I'd update.
Harley is a little star and goes outside to toilet all the time now. In fact we cant remember the last time we had an accident.....must have been when I started this thread, lol.
The wee soul doesn't whine to let us know he wants out though...he just sits at the door until one of us sees him and lets him out. Most of the time we see him quite promptly but I'm sure he must have to cross his legs on the odd occasion, lol.Even so, he doesn't mess at all now. (Might have just tempted fate there.... )
We've got new worries about him though........I'm going to start another new thread.0 -
agree with the stop/start method.if you are using treats make sure that the going for a walk treats- are a)super delicious b)not used anytime else. ensure that you have a 'dog walking' coat so that you can keep everything you need in your pocket.I did see a trainer who had an idea of treats in a tin. Quite honestly trying to walk a 9 stone bouncy dog with a tin in one hand I found impossible. I also used to call the stop/start walks 'learn walks' so that he knew that the highest manners were expected.0

I live in Godmanchester and I took my dog to a class held by Sue Ketland (she works at Wood Green along with the 2 helpers at the class). The cost was £50 for 6 weeks which does sound alot, but the help and guidance that was given was excellent and after 6 weeks we didn't need any more classes.
She does classes at Abbots Ripton on a Wednesday evening and children are encouraged to go as long and get involved in the training. If you google her name you will get her e-mail address and phone number.
Alot of the dogs that attended had originally come from Wood Green.
