I have checked the list and there are some in bedfordshire but again these are quite a distance to travel - probably around 30 miles.
Good idea pboae - I'd never though of those leads to be used like that! There are also double ended (versatlity) leads - £7.99 (and recall training leads too) on the TRPD website. Think of them as 'more control' rather than an awkward loop - it's not that different from holding a lead, and you have two points of control instead of one.
We recently invested in a Mekuti Harness, which works great, but you would probably need two hands to start with. It worked for us - mostly for the leading round the front of the dog.You could try it, as they offer a 30 day guarantee, and Rachael at Mekuti is very helpful.

I understand now about the lead. I will go to pets at home tomorrow and see what I can get - they are my nearest petstore
Unfortunately going without my toddler is not an option, not really anyone here I can leave her with - she will be ok with things, I will just take her to the park at some point during the day (without the dog)and she will be happy.
They funny thing is that she is so well behaved with other things it is just the walking thing.
Every meal time we put her food in her dish and make her sit and wait and she will sit until the release words "go on then" are spoken, she is fantastic at this - I have once forgotten about her whilst doing other things and she must have been sat waiting for half an hour or more but she didn't even move (large patch of drool on the floor though!!!!)
So I know she can do what she is told, just not outdoors.
Thanks for the advice so far.

lol, when my one was little she wouldn't 'go' outside so, after speaking to the breeder we had to throw loads of sawdust chippings down where we wanted her to go because that's what she'd been used to. It worked!
and yes, I tried really hard (and it was really trying), to not scold her when she did anything wrong when she was being 'naughty' (including lying between my feet biting my ankles while i was washing up!)
Just keep smiling, and keep being consistant0 -
I just tried to put a picture of her up but I can't work out how to.
I will see if I can change my avatar to her.0 -
Just a thought, but is Wood Green within reasonable distance from you? I don't know whether they still do it now as this was years ago, but they used to hold training classes there. If not they might well be able to recommend someone.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

That is where we got her from.
To be honest they haven't been very helpful in the past when we contacted them about problems between the dog and existing cat.
I have to ring them tomorrow anyway to say I am not going to be bringing her in ( I had phoned up last week I had got to the end of the road with her - she ran out the front door and i spent 3 hrs chasing her round the estate before I finally had help and rounded her up!!!) it was the end of a very tought week with her. But I just can't bring myself to do it.
I will see what they say tomorrow.
PS cant upload a pic of her I don't have web hosting and I can't change my avatar as all the pics I have of her are too big.0 -

I run training classes, and whilst it's great if children can come, under the age of about 5, it's very difficult for a handler to control dogs AND get the children to do as they are told so they don't distract other dogs and handlers.
Another thing you can do which might help, is to reward your dog with a food treat (you can use her daily ration of dry food) when she IS walking nicely beside you - try rewarding every step to start with, then when she's walking on a loose lead (because she knows the next food treat is coming) drop the frequency to every other step.
HTHPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
