Reminds me something funny I once read when I was handed a Crown Court transcript of the following STORY The alleged owner had to use several people to tend to these crops daily due to the amount.

The people who tended to the crops were not allowed outside the "farm" and were picked up from their houses and blindfolded in the back of a van until they arrived some 2 hours after being picked up and dropped off some 2 hours after they had finished. They were paid handsomely for this.

When seeing the transcripts of their interviews I cracked up laughing. The police asked them

Police: "How was a typical day at the farm starting from when you left your house to returning home".
Farmers: "Well we would be picked up and blindfolded and driven up north for two hours or so on the way to the farm..........Then after a days work would drive south blindfolded and dropped off by our houses"
Police: "Why two hours there and back?"
Farmers: Because they did not want us to know where up north the farm was located for fear of the crop being stolen"
Police "But the farm was only 3 miles away from all of your houses"

That has to have been about the mildest 'attack' ever reported!

    Come on adougllasmhor...

    * get a sense of humour and

    * accept that in a public forum you'll get all sorts of responses. Learn from the ducks..... and their backs..... you know: water off....

Now - should a start changing the tenor of my posts? My 'serious' (and hopefully informative) advisery post for new landlords has gained 92 'thanks' over the last 2.5 years.

My tongue-in-cheek post above has gained 23 'thanks' in just 24 hours!

Does that say something about this forum? Me? Or all the rest of you!
Being accused of being a druggie is a mild attack? Not to me.

Why should adouglassmhor not complain if he found a comment about him offensive?

People so often make quips and then hide behind the fact that it's a "joke". It's defamatory to say that someone is a drug user. You can't go around putting things like that in writing, you don't know where it might lead for that person and in any case it can be upsetting and that is reason enough. People usually try to help so it's a bit of a slap in the face to get an insult, however lightly it was intended by the person posting it.

I didn't even see the original post but I strongly believe that if someone feels offended on a forum or website, about a comment directed at them personally, that is their response and it should be noted.

I was reading this thread because one of my neighbours has a cannabis farm in his loft. It's well known to everyone but not much we can do as he knows some serious dealers..if you know what I mean. He's threatened to have another neighbour knee-capped as he complained to the police (about something else). Thankfully I'm moving from the area as it's full of anti-social behaviour problems which are all drug-related.

I make 'quips', use irony etc from time to time. Usually people see it as the joke it is intended as. Occassionally someone takes offence, and if told I either apologise or advise them to get a sense of humour (depending how valid I feel their offence to be when I view it in retrospect).

I've been ticked off by the mods (twice) for my soh...

But frankly, it's a public forum. There are people posting herefrom all backgrounds, personalities etc and if you want to participate you have to accept to some extent you will rub against people with different views, opinions and.. senses of humour.

Accept it and move on is my advice unless it is really offensive and/or repetative (stalking/trolling).

Dan Dan's post was a brief one-liner made in jest. He does not know you from Adam so is clearly not seriously accusing you of taking drugs! To do so on the basis of your own, brief, single post would be ludicrous!

And even if he was serious- you're anonymous! So what does it matter?

OK, if he continued to respond like that to your every post, on every thread, you'd have a point. But as I said before:

Well said GM. Sensitive souls probably shouldn't post on public forums in case someone is an ickle bit unkind to them. I've had comments on here that have made me bristle sometimes, or have thought were a bit harsh, but you have to take the rough with the smooth. Overall, 99% of people on here want to help and offer advice, whether or not it's the advice you want. A little bit of humour doesn't hurt. It really was too minor to take offence at IMO. But let's all play nicely. Ding ding, move along the bus!!:)
  • Definitely get the electrics checked - occasionally cannabis factories burn down because they've been tampered with badly. There weren't any signs of damage caused by condensation/high moisture levels when you viewed?

If your concerned about past customers showing up, can you park outside for an evening or two (often a good way to see what an area's like, anyway). You could also ask the neighbours how they feel about the street (without mentioning the drugs!) Having a big cannabis farm while dealing from the same place probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to do, but drug producers aren't known for universally well-considered practices.
