Can't save a Hijack This scan

Hello,

Been having problems again with sons laptop, keeps freezing on him despite it having had a factory reset just last week. When I try a Hijack this report it doesn't allow the report to be saved as a file it seems (denied write access to the hosts file) and when asked to type in the script which it suggests, the detail on the notepad doesn't contain any sign of "Hijack This".

There appear to be too many processes running on this wee machine of his (Toshiba C660D). 65 processes, multiple .exe files, commit 1753/5333 Physical Memory 2667 Cached 1223 Available 1166 Free 35. Don't know what relevant detail to post but grateful for any advice on how I can get a Hijack This file saved and what else I can do to establish what is going on.

Grateful for any advice.

Thanks

Forget HijackThis for now, post me a DDS log - should take 2-3 minutes.

Download DDS from the link below and save it to your desktop:

    Link

After you've downloaded it and saved it to your desktop:
    • Double click DDS to run it.
    • Click Start
    • When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop.

Copy & paste the contents of just DDS.txt for now and post it here (you may need to split the log over separate posts)
  • Thanks for your time and reply. Will do this over the weekend.

Nothing jumping out there. Did it start freezing immediately despite the factory reset, or did it run ok for a while?
  • It did seem to run ok for a day or so but it started to install over 100 windows updates and thats when it froze again.

These were the automatic updates and it hung after several hours of updating and still only half way through. I couldn't get it started up again and had to go to the factory reset. This isn't a problem as he didn't have anything on the laptop needing saved.
  • Thanks for the advice waddler. The laptop seeme dto go ok for a day but it has since installed numerous updates, taking a very long time to complete (overnight) and is now back to being extremely slow and hanging so it is just not worth the time to use.

This is just with internet running and nothing else.

Should I do another log to see if the updates have caused the problem?

    Thanks again
