O2 PAYG - Price increases

Sorry if this has been mentioned but I did a quick search.

O2 are increasing the cost of 0844, 0845, 0870 from 15p/min to 25p/min from 1st July 2007.

On this day, the minimum call charge will increase from 5p to 10p for the first 3minutes of the day (where calls are 25p/min for these first 3minutes each day). The minimum call charge for the remainder of calls that day (charged at 5p/min for o2 mobiles and geographical numbers) will stay at 5p minimum call charge.

This increase only applies to PAYG customers as far as I'm aware although it may also apply to Contract customers as well (either now or maybe sometime in the future).

There are also a few other changes as well.

Further information can be obtained by ringing 2202 free from a PAYG phone.

O2's tariff page here states the current prices and I would expect this page to be updated in July with new prices.

I think it's a joke. The tariff 25p per min followed by 5p per min to o2 and landlines or 40p per min to other networks is already one of the dearest IMO. Orange is 15p per min to any network and T-Mobile is 12p per min to any network. So to slap a minimum 10p call charge (up from 5p) is a joke. Think of the extra profit they'll make.

I also loved how they started the annonucement by saying something like 'we are continually reviewing our call charges to give you best value for money". Yeah right, they didn't reduce any call charges at all, only increased.

Just checked Oranges website here and their 08x rates are 25p/min (0871 is 35p/min).

I think o2's same network and landline rates are ok if you talk more than 3mins that day because then it drops down to 5p/min for rest of the day.

In comparison to Orange who charge 15p/min for landlines and same network then it would be cheaper to use o2 after 6mins of talking in one day. Depending on usage this could really cheap compared to constantly paying 15p/min.

I totally agree that their cross-network rates are the most expensive at 40p/min.

The minimum call charge on Orange is 15p/min, voda is 10p/min and not sure of t-mobile but I can imagine they charge around 10p/min minimum call charge as well. Most networks (if not all) increased their minimum call charge a long time ago.

Personally, due to t-mobile and orange most likely having crap signal probs indoors then for me that leaves o2 or voda. Out of these two networks, with o2 I get 300 texts and 150 off-peak anynetwork minutes for topping up £15 and still get to keep the £15. This is an old tariff that is no longer available to new customers or anyone changing tariffs.

Voda don't really do free texts similar to o2 and Orange with the exception of a special very limited offer a while ago.
