Double Glazing Company's credit card machine faulty and wants BACS transfer instead

Anyone any views on this situation? We were just about to pay the 40% deposit this afternoon when we were told we couldn't pay by credit card because the machine had a faulty chip. They would accept a transfer to their bank account which would attract a 4.5% charge on the card or, alternatively a straightforward BACS transfer which would not offer the credit card insurance. Rather miffed. Have delayed decision until tomorrow.

I'd be waiting until they'd sorted the "faulty chip".

If they want your (and others') business they'll be sorting it pretty quickly I'd have thought.

A transfer from a CC wouldn't offer the 'insurance' either.

    Wait until they've sorted it.

You can always take your business elsewhere.

This happened to us with our double glazing company. I refused to pay by bank transfer and said I wanted to pay by credit card or I would cancel the contract. It took a week for the machine to be sorted but I just waited until it was fixed. If they value your business they will wait.

I was always told not to pay anything until the double glazing was fitted and satisfactory and never have. So wonder why you are having to pay?

They would 'accept' would they? That's very good of them.

I'd wait until they get their machine 'fixed' although if I was a cynic I'd say that there's probably nothing wrong with the machine and they just want to avoid paying a processing fee. Out of interest, how much are they planning on shafting you for paying by credit card?
  • I would urge OP to walk away from this.

If the double glazing company is limited it could be the bank who have blocked the card machine as they might be aware of financial problems leading to possible administration.
If you send the money by bank transfer you could well be saying goodbye to it!

    Take your business elswhere.

There's no charge mentioned on their website but I may have missed it if it's hidden away in the small print.

Thank you. I didn't know that.
