Anyone any good with crying women leaving the country on 4 weeks notice because their employer stuffed up their visa?

Nope. Who has that happened to?

Until such time as someone more knowledgeable is available I am providing tissues, wine and making a mess of her house.

And sympathy - don't forget to mention the sympathy.

It's the friend I'm staying with (not got around to moving over to the friend I work with's house as they've either had guests or been away at the weekends since I arrived).

I don't do sympathy very well, tonight I've mainly awkwardly sat on the sofa with a bottle of wine and a handful of tissues next to her - I tried giving her a hug and she ran away to throw another bag of things in to the bin outside.

How is the house-hunting going BTW?

Is her job really that good? Given that she has another country to go to (assuming it isn't some hell-hole), it surely isn't that tragic. And she can always re-apply.

You don't need all that much of a pulse to get in.

Oh dear, that's awkward. Perhaps she doesn't take sympathy that well?

Think I've found somewhere need to start doing paperwork tomorrow.

She's Canadian, her job here is pretty good given its in a tough field and exactly what her masters degree was not to mention the current politcal environment in said field. But the prospect of selling a house full of possessions, packing up a life of 3 years and taking two suitcases home with so little notice has understandably knocked her sideways.

Nope she just realised it was a bag of rubbish and this morning it was bin day.

Good job makes it difficult, but many people here would give a body part in order to go to Canada - it's a funny old world...

Yes, that's rather short notice. Has she appealed?

    Paperwork started.

Of course once it's done and I have the keys I move from a sofa to the floor....

I know, but for her the employment market is hugely limited as to do the same job in Canada as she does here she'd need to be bilingual which she isnt. Plus it would mean living pretty much the furthest from her family over there possible.

Appeals take longer than she has left on the current Visa, but to appeal it would need her employer to step up and stop being utter f*****ts. Since the one thing they needed to do to help make their wrong paper work become easier to deal with was advertise her job and they've not it seems unlikely.

    Are they a private company?

No point buying things when I can borrow a camp bed for a couple of weeks until I can arrange for my furniture to be brought down.

I think so but alot of their work is with the public sector, the whole thing just confuses me.

Just wondering if they're viewing it as a cheap way of getting rid of someone. The mistakes are starting to mount.

Just catching up, congratulations on the move! Sorry to hear about your friend though, having just come from a company that screwed up several people's visas a couple of weeks ago though, I'm not remotely surprised :(
