    One question about these conditions:

    "To be eligible for the reward set out in condition 11.1, you must, at the time you enter into this agreement:-
    (a) hold a Halifax current account and pay in £1,000 or more each month;
    (b) use our switching service to move your current account to a Halifax Current Account and agree to pay in £1,000 or more each month;
    (c) open or hold a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account."

    Do we need to meet (a)+(b)+(c) for the additional fiver, or (a) or (b) or (c)? The Ultimate Account is very pricey and make the whole deal unintersting.

    When I applied back in 2011, there was an "or" at the end of line (b) - I have a copy here. It appears to have disappeared on the latest version....

    I have only ever met (a) and still get my fivers.

    This is the full paragraph from the current T&Cs taken from http://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/clarity-card/terms/ :

    DRAFT GENERAL CREDIT CARD CONDITIONS

    11 REWARD PAYMENT 11.1 If you meet the requirements set out in condition 11.2, then for any statement period in which you:- (a) make at least £300 of Purchases (once any Purchases refunded in that period have beend deducted);
    (b) stay within your credit limit; and
    (c) make your minimum monthly payment;
    you will qualify for a £5 credit to your account in the following month. The credit will not be treated as a payment to your account under these conditions.
    11.2 To be eligible for the reward set out in condition 11.1, you must, at the time you enter into this agreement:- (a) hold a Halifax current account and pay in £1,000 or more each month;
    (b) use our switching service to move your current account to a Halifax Current Account and agree to pay in £1,000 or more each month;
    (c) open or hold a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account.

    Interestingly, 11.1 (b) includes an "and", and 11.2 (b) neither "and" nor "or". So it may imply "or" ?! Can anybody would has taken on this double deal (Reward account 5er + Clarity Card 5er) recently comment?

    It's quite clearly an 'or' situation to me.

    For example...

    a) talks of an existing customer currently paying in £1K per month, ie to meet the old Reward Account condition (which is now £750 with a 2 x DD requirement).

    b) talks of switching to their standard Current Account (note the use of capitalisation) and agreeing to pay in £1K per month.

    If you were already doing a) why would you need to do b) as well?

    And as for c), well that's a different product altogether.

    In summary, if you already had a Halifax account (whether you're currently paying in £1K or not) or opened their standard Current Account (again note the capitalisation) and switched to it, why on earth should/would you also have to open an Ultimate Reward account to qualify for the Clarity Reward payment?

    So you're going to chance an online application for the Clarity card then, despite what they say online and the fact that the T&Cs are a 'draft' copy, ie not specific to your personal application*...and argue the toss when you don't get the £5 Reward?

    Good luck!

    * The T&Cs, ie your personal copy, they send you to sign may not include a section 11.

    I'm replying to YB's post from 3 months ago as it has taken this long - just to say that I chanced an online application

    The "draft" T&Cs online did not have the Section 11

    The actual T&Cs received with the card did.

    Received the first £5 payment 2 months and 2 days after account opening date. Saved Halifax £5 as I was just about to call them to ask.

    On a separate note, I'm not sure how to improve my credit rating with Halifax. I've had the Reward account for 3 years, paid in £1000+ each month, and since this year I genuinely used it as my main account with most of my direct debits except that my salary goes elsewhere.

    I got 17.9% and £1500 limit, declined for overdraft on the Reward account.

    At exactly the same time (within seconds) I applied for 4 other BT cards, all were approved and my lowest CL was £5000... including BOS which goes to show they aren't really related. However, the BOS application caused my name and address to be changed on their system, Halifax's, AND Lloyds!. Complaint going through.

    Clarity is probably a loss-leader for them, they don't really want you being able to spend loads on it. I bet if you applied for one of their other cards, you'd probably get a higher limit.
    Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

    ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

    Another question regarding the Fiver to be earned on the Halifax Clarity:

    Does anybody know from experience whether foreign currency transactions count towards the necessary 300 GBP? I did not find this mentioned in the T&Cs.

    It's a good question because from my understanding foreign currency transactions are excluded from cashback most of the time, for example on the Amex Platinum Cashback cards.

    I can confirm that foreign currency transactions count towards the £300 monthly spend. I have had months where my only transactions have been in USD, and I've received the £5 the following month.

    I'll back that up with a "me too".

    The majority of my Clarity usage is in foreign currencies. Without that spend I wouldn't hit the £300 target. I receive the £5 cashback; it is credited to my credit card account about three weeks after the statement it's for is produced.
