Since you've paid nothing for it, it can hardly be a 'bad decision'.
But it was still your choice to go ahead, despite your apparent doubts.
What make/model boiler have 'they' installed?
The OP was persuaded by the Government to be more energy efficient by replacing his old boiler with one of the new condensing ones.
Also, it's hardly his fault if he fits the eligibility criteria, he didn't set the criteria the Government did!
I have also used this scheme to try and be more energy efficient. I had a perfectly good (although old) working boiler, got a new condensing one fitted under Government's " Affordable Warmth Scheme" via British Gas. It broke within 10 days, flooded my property and I have had no hot water or central heating for 3 weeks!
I can see where the OP is coming from.0
