SAR and PPI

Options
Hi,
I'm about to lodge a PPI claim against Bank of Scotland for PPI on two credit cards that I was told I had to take at the point of sale.

One of the card was closed in 2009 and all I have for that is a statement showing credit care being taken, the original account number and account number at the time it was closed (it change from Visa to Mastercard at some point).

The other card is still in operation, and they are taking credit care each month. Like the other card it change from Visa to Mastercard and I have the original account number at the time of opening in 2000, as well as some T&C leaflets that they send from time to time and the last 12 months statements.

My question is though, do I need to issue a SAR to get copies of the statements, agreement etc or can I simply fill in and send off the FOS form?

I've been going round in circle for over a year now talking myself into doing it one way then changing my mind (SAR or form!) so would appreciate some guidance!

Thanks

you dont ned a SAR to complain, you need the CC numbers. A sar would only be good for you if you wanted a complete record [ or what they have left] of the amount of PPi you paid.

    -taff,

Thanks for your reply. So would I be right in thinking that a SAR won't provide me with a copy of the application form?

    Q
  • It might do, it might not. An SAR to MBNA provided my original application form from the late 90s. An SAR to MINT, for a card taken out some years later, didn't. Both the cards were still active. Both of them also provided statements but nothing going back more than 6 years. I sent them SARs because they didn't uphold my initial complaints based on what I knew were incorrect details so I wanted to see the records. As taff said the card numbers are what you need to complain.
