Good price for meat?

I'm learning to look around for the best prices but still have some way to go before I am an expert and would love some advice. What is a good price for meat? I used to buy the 3 for £10 in Tesco and Asda but have noticed that the pack sizes have gone down quite a lot over the last year or so. I'm trying to judge what the bargains are now and have Asda/Tesco/Lidl/Farm Foods/Butchers all within walking distance of where I live.
Is £5 per kg a good measure of a bargain for meat?

Lidl were doing a reduced beef roasting joint for £5.99/kg last weekend which was lovely. Generally I'll pay £3-4/kg for pork, and up to about £9/kg for lamb as a treat. Mostly we bulk-buy our meat from Costco - not necessarily the cheapest, but the best quality I've found. Tried and hated Farmfoods meat. We don't eat meat every day so I don't go for extremely low prices - I'd rather pay a bit more for quality and treat it as a luxury."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

No, it depends on what animal the meat comes from and what cut it is.
If I were you I would go onto the tesco and asda web sites and check the prices, per kg, of the types of meat you would buy. Make a note of them and use this as a bench mark when looking in other stores.
Remembering that meat is often cheaper in one store for a reason, it may be tougher, or in the case of pork have that odd revolting taste.
I won't go into organic/free range etc, but the same applies to that, the better the animals are treated the more their meat costs.
So it's mainly a case of you get what you pay for, but you need to try out different stuff and find what you like/can afford/are willing to pay for.0 -
Buy the offers and freeze.
Morrison's have pork chops for £2 for 630g pack, or £3.18 kg for example.
Pork will be generally cheaper than beef or chicken breasts and lamb higher again. But there are offers on all the time.
Set a target price (for each type of meat) and stick to it if possible, or try to beat that target price.
It can be fun trying to beat the system.
Lidl and Aldi offers can be good, I find Aldi better quality overall and probably paying slightly more for.

I sometimes buy large beef joints. Often Irish ones seem the best value, Then I cut them up myself into joints for roasting for two of us and any left into chunks for casseroling. Amazingly these joints are often cheaper per kg than the casserole beef cubes!
P.S. Best value after Christmas when really large joints being sold off.0 -

P.P.S. If you like gammon then £4 per kg is pretty average for Aldi and Lidl and yummy too!0 -
I'm in milton Keynes. Thanks for the replies everyone. We mainly eat chicken breast and beef mince, sometimes pork chops. Having a per kg price for each meat in my head is a great idea I will have to do some further investigating to get this.
I have seen our local butcher does 5kg chicken breast for £24-25 which was good when I compared to the amount you get for £10 packs in Tesco.January grocery challenge £0/£300
