New computer wanted

I am thinking of buying a new desktop and a laptop, preferably Windows 7, reasonable specs - any recommendations of what to buy and where's good online to buy from ?

Don't have anyone to advise or help me. Thanks

Difficult to say without knowing what you intend to use them for i.e. gaming, graphics, development, financial processing etc and what your budget would be. Without this info it is really difficult to advise and you could end up buying something that does not address your needs.

    Thanks asmwp
Sorry, not really interested in gaming, graphics or financial processing.
    Also not much into music.

Just really for a bit of word processing ( I have Microsoft office suite) and surfing. Also would like to be able to stream films through PLEX to my Now TV Box. Have got this set up on Netbook but keeps buffeting every few mins.

Price between £300-500 each, I think, but flexible.

Have been looking at Acer Aspire V5 Laptop 6GB RAM 500GB Hard Drive 15.6" and Acer Intel Core 15 Processor 6GB RAM 1TB HD with 20"screen.

Thanks, I have already followed some of your other post and it has helped, but current computer is Comaq Presario AMD 64 Athlon using Windows XP and about 10 years old. No wireless - have to use a wireless USB
Also unable to download Service Pack 3 without it crashing.

Think you say anything over 10 years is a dinosaur !
    Any advice much appreciated

Do either of those choices come with Windows 7 or have you suddenly changed your criteria?

post hijackthis logs, ram, and commit charges, even 12 year old machines can run fast.

There's no guarantee a new machine will cure the streaming problem

if you are using plex to stream locally held files on the netbook to the nowtv box, the internet isn't involved, but your local wireless network is
