Hi,
I am a final year University student and am looking for people to help me test out a system I have developed to recommend TV programmes based on information gathered about previous viewing habits and ratings that you give to previously shown programmes. I am looking for approximately 30 people to test the system, which is available at:
http://tv2uk.objectnova.com
This study will require approximately 10 minutes of your time for the next 7 days (you might even find the actual information provided useful
). As a reward for your time, I will be awarding a randomly selected participant with their choice of a £10 Argos voucher or £10 credited to their Paypal account. For transparency, the draw will be conducted by a neutral party (MSE_Andrea has kindly agreed to do this for me). In order for you to be eligible for the draw, I simply ask that you log in to the site at least once a day for the next 7 days, providing the system with some details of your preferences and to complete a short exit questionnaire in seven days time. To allow you to train the system further the previous 3 weeks of TV scheduling data is also present in the system.
***BONUS***
I will also award a further prize of £5 for the MSE member who provides the most useful comments and feedback regarding this system on the thread.
Note:
In order to be eligible for this prize, you must own a television (and appropriate television license
) and have regular access to the Internet.
The system requires an invitation code (to track the source of participants) - to be eligible for the prize, please use the code: msecomp.
Thanks in advance to anybody who participates!

Thanks Foxy
Has anybody got any feedback to report yet? Still got about 15 spaces... 0 -
Have had a good trawl through the site, and logged the programmes I know I'm likely to want to see. Don't quite understand how to log the negatives - should I be putting some info about the programmes I really don't want to see, and if so how do I do this?0

When you click onto a programme name there is a ratings option on the right hand side of the screen where you can negatively rate programmes. Just click on the rating value (-5 to +5 you wish to give a programme to rate it). Let me know if you have any problems

Entry will have to close at the end of today to ensure participants have sufficient time to evaluate the system... Still a few spaces left.0

what a fab way to plan my viewing guide AND find out whats happening in my favourite programmes and all FREEEEEEE. How many weeks in advance will it do...how many weeks of desperate housewives can I sneak in..woohooooo!!!!I wished upon a star tonight that I would see you once more,
To hold you in my arms and tell you how much I love you,
To hear your voice, to kiss your cheek oh for just one more time,
But all I have are memories and a heart full of love and tears.0 -
Thanks
It will do up to two weeks of programmes ahead (need to update it tonight to include the latest data though). Hopefully should be a couple more minor updates tonight as well including a little symbol next to the programme name to let you know if you have marked a programme to watch and record. 0 -
Hi jo3uk
I've spent a bit of time with TV2.
It seems to work fairly well. It's quite intuitive to use and is reasonably fast to update. Visually, it's appealing with a good choice of colours. Convenient & simple online tv guide which shows at a glance what's on without having to move away from the pc (and MSE!).
As you're asking for opinions...
Here's some constructive criticism  (yes I know it's beta)
1) The details/ratings page needs to be more user friendly - it's ok, just needs to be a little better organised.
2) Due to regional variations, a number of the programmes and times are not correct for my area. Not sure what you can do about that though?
3) There are a two small spelling mistakes which when corrected would make it more professional.
(Sorry,
being a little picky!)
"You may also chose to rate..."
"...watched/recorder..."
4) Can the font size be increased a little on the programme name/link to make it more legible?
Was there something about receiving a daily email when I signed up...or was I still half asleep:question:
Will you be able to extend this to add other channels, (I don't have Sky but do have other digital channels) such as BBC3 & 4, ITV3, etc,?
Impressive effort so far.
Very good luck with it!0 -
Its not particularly clear what the particiapant needs to do - for example - do you log things you are not/interested in in advance or after you have watched them - and when you are finished for the day do you just log out?0
