Broadband for tablets

I hope someone can help me, I am so confused! I currently do not have a PC, laptop, tablet or telephone at home. Like many people I use my mobile as my main telephone and use the internet at work. I therefore do not have a phone line at home.

I want to invest in a mini ipad and I am very confused as to what to get. Should I buy the wifi/sim ipad? Or should I get broadband installed at home and get the wifi ipad instead?

I want to get whatever is going to be the most economical option. I have spoken to Carphone Warehouse and several other companies and I am more confused than when I started! No one can answer my questions as to which is the cheapest option.

Any advise anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

What do you want to do with ipad? Connect to the internet I assume?

If you buy the 3G version (SIM) then you can buy a plan for it, some ideas here

Do you have an active telephone line installed, or would you need a whole new package set up?

Does your mobile phone allow for a hotspot to be set up so that you could connect your ipad to it and use the phones internet connection for the times you need it? This would mean you would only need a wifi version of the ipad.

Dependent on your likely data usage, you can obtain a Mifi for £30 or less to be used with conjunction with a suitable package. One MiFi can supply a Wireless Internet connection for up to eight items.
A 3G mini iPad appears to be up to £100 more than the WiFi only version, so a MiFi unit is a cheaper option.

Indeed you can get a telephone line and install ADSL, but then you'll be stuck when you leave your home, as you'll be dependent on free WiFi Hotspots.

The MiFi should provide Internet wherever you have a suitable mobile telephone signal.

Another option is to tether via your existing Smartphone, perhaps creating a WiFi Hotspot with it if applicable.
