Share certificate replacement costs. Any tips?

I had a similar situation with Equniti and some shares of my late mother in law. After carrying out a fair bit of research my actions were 1) check the value of the shares 2) pay the cost of the re-issued certificate and the indemnity and sell the shares 3) subsequently check that I knew where my own paper certificates were stored in my house.
So the advice you received -to pay up and get what you require, the share certificate -was actually helpful and accurate imo,if not what you wanted to hear0 -
If you start a unqualified rant then you should expect responses of that nature. The tone is set by the style YOU post.
Hardly a rant. I was shocked at the cost when the shares are not worth a whole lot more than that.
It was a request for information, but yours is typical of the kind of person who posts a lot on these forums. Pompous and lacking in fact. Completely missing the detail that I AM indeed an "unqualified" newbie.
I'd carry on, but, yawn... zzzz0 -
Hi,
well I did think that your 'rip-off'' was a bit over the top, but if you check out one of the links I provided, seems that cost is relative to value.
Looks as though you'll just have to pay.0 -

Frugalmacdugal. What a nice poster you are. Helpful, honest without being abrupt, and very informative. Thanks for the links.
P.S. I did concede that "rip-off" might have been harsh0 -

A genuine request for information doesn't usually come along with "rip-off" and multiple exclamation remarks.but yours is typical of the kind of person who posts a lot on these forums. Pompous and lacking in fact. Completely missing the detail that I AM indeed an "unqualified" newbie.
Then may I suggest that you tone down the style of your posts and you may well get useful help?0 -

Indeed you may well be right. A genuine position of being shocked does, but I do take the point. Like I said, I'm a newbie, and some of you kindly recognise that.0 -
I sometimes wonder exactly how new those newbies really are that seem to know all about the MSE 'be nice to newbies' policy.0

Er.. because it comes up in a big box below my name to the left perhaps?
Genuine first post, in case you wondered.0 -
So, first of all - I'd remove the "rip-off" from the title if I could. Is that possible?
Secondly, frugalmacdugal's links are interesting. I need to go back to Capita to see if the cost quoted is correct, as it seems high for the value of the shares (a few hundred pounds). But leading on from that, I'm intrigued by the subject of paper certificates.
This whole indemnity and guarantee - Are the paper certificates not numbered and/or printed with a name and address? Surely the risk to the broker is minimal? How would you use a certificate that had been replaced? It would flag up as fraudulent (you'd think) and hence not be honoured by the broker?
Just curiosity now, but wondering what I'm missing from the puzzle.0 -
Hi,
you will find a reference number on your dividend voucher, which will correspond with your share certificate, maybe called account number, nowadays.0
