Just brilliant-My car is probably written off.

 We went away at the weekend and returned home last night to a note from the police to say my car has been broken into.

Rang them got my crime number, rang insurance who said because of the age of your car and the damage caused it'll probably be wriitten off as it's not economically viable to get it fixed. Fine I say when will it be assessed and when do I get my courtesy car.
Oh you can't, the assessor won't be out to assess it until thursday and if they say its written off which is highly likely because the steering column is smashed and I cannot turn the key in the ignition they'll look to settle with you.

Ok say I, how long does that take........quite a few weeks, was the reply.

Police investigation person has just been and can't get prints but pointed out that whomever aka gitface had gained access by pulling the passenger door away from the car. I hadn't noticed but can now see where the door is quite badly damaged.

So no car, no assessor for a few days, no courtesy car because the insurance say they won't provide one unless my car is sent to an approved garage which it won't be. I'm slightly miffed to say the least.

But in the meantime, I guess I have to keep paying my insurance!!

Really what is the point of it all.

I am really sorry! That is a really awful thing to happen. I hope it gets sorted out asap and feel free to vent your anger as I think I would be either livid or crying or probably both!

It's a joke isn't it, I mean I'm fully comp, business use, drivers legal protection and for what.

I am not able to use that car now which I use for work, and I have to have a car for work as I do between 40 to 80 miles per day as I have a huge area to cover.

Whomever did it was also involved in stealing and damaging 2 other cars on the same night because the police found mine damaged and open attending to the other incidents.

Luckily I have access to another car but it'll cost me a fortune in petrol and I had already budgeted and filled the tank of the damaged car up. Bet that won't be accounted for in their assessment.

I just think its unfair and unreasonable, insurance companies are a law unto themselves. Fantastic bit that, that if your car is assessed as a write off they will not give you a courtesy car in the meantime. This'll take weeks, probably months to sort out.

Whomever did it, I hope the karmic wheel turns round and smacks you right in the face.

My manager is understanding to a point but won't be if I have to have too much time off.

I'm just really frustrated that this has happened. What a great start to the week.

And as it turns out once written off the car carries a CAT marker which potentially could affect your insurance renewal & car retail price and also carries a VIC marker whereby you can't get retaxed until you get it removed via a VIC check £36 day off of work etc Meanwhile the A***hole who caused it all is off to the pub "daily event" and hasn't even reported his side of the incident to his insurance yet 2/3 weeks later. Oh a PS your insurance is reduced to 3rd party after a total loss; great ain't it.

  • Hi there,
I know how you feel although my car was written off by an insured driver on 31/12/06, to make things worse my own insurance company valued the car at only £100 (zurick), I was horrifed & furious, luckily the other drivers insurance valued it at £600 but she is now blaming another driver & I still haven't got a penny almost six months later. I got a hire car for a whole 4 days whoooppppeeee NOT.
Good luck and I hope you get things sorted quicker than mine.

It's just stressful having to talk to numpty's in the claims department and all of it. I have spent most of today on the phone trying to get through to various departments and all on 0845 numbers.

It's something else to have to think about and my washing machine has broken so somehow that'll need replacing, it's getting to me now.

So in the meantime my car will sit outside for god knows how long having insurance and tax just frittering away, what a grand waste of money.

WWW.SAYNOTO0870.CO.UK I think they have alternative numbers for 0845 as well

from what you say it seems like they smashed the ignition lock, fairly easy and cheap to fix if you buy the parts from a scrap yard
