You know mgdavid, I came on here to ask advice and sound out opinions, not for myself and others to be the target for your nasty and insulting comments on our common sense and other personal qualities.
My crude but effective solution is to put you on my ignore list. :j
I'll take this opportunity to thank all posters for their interesting ideas. :T

You told us you were tight.
You told us you had an insurance co that won't add another car temporarily.
You asked for advice and opinions.
A number of suggestions have been offered all of which you apparently are unable to take advantage of..
Only saying it how it is.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

I have to say this situation is very simple - you have a car that needs insuring, you say your insurer won't add it as a temporary additional vehicle. So you have no other choice than to take out a new policy.

I worked in motor insurance for a number of years (& my OH still does) I find it very hard to believe an insurance company won't add a 2nd vehicle to a policy temporarily for a fee.
    :)
  • I thought maybe there was an insurance company out there that would cover two cars temporarily until handover of the the orginal car was completed. We found ourselves in this situation last Saturday. had to get the Silver Ghost to the dealership at 11am and take delivery of the new car . The insurance company would not allow an overlap. It is with Ageas Insurance through RIAS (for over 50's), so we had two policies running at the same time until midnight Saturday night. It cost us £72.00 for that day until the original policy cancelled.

It's not that we are tight old gits, we thought that there would be some leeway with the insurance industry to allow for the changeover of vehicles.

Usually there is - I'm with Aviva & they cover both vehicles for free for 24 hours, any longer than that & they charge but it will still be added to the policy temporarily without the need for a new policy.

If it's for more than a few days it might be cheaper to take a new policy out though.
    :)
  • Guess who will be looking for another insurance company next year, we have two cars, but again Ageas don't have the discount for having two cars with them.

Talk about going around in circles with RIAS last Friday.

Now that's the kind of information I've been looking for, many thanks.
