Does anybody know hw reliable the 150Hp versions are?

    such as this.
Not sure, try looking on the VW/Golf forums, some of the Golfs and Leons had that engine.

Whilst the petrol v diesel towing argument rages on in many a motoring forum, I know people who use petrol cars for towing and the car barely knows it's towing anything. Especially with the 2.5 Volvo 10v, which was specifically designed for towing.
I also know a guy with an old Omega V6 Petrol, which is as fast when towing a caravan as it is without.

yes but the fuel consumption will be shocking.

The Caravan & Camping Club tow car reviews always include the regular tested mpg and the mpg when towing. It can be anything from 10 to 15 mpg less when loaded up so on a V6 Omega you are looking at less than 20mpg which is pretty wallet shattering if you are off to the south of france.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Moving from an 03 to an 05 is a ridiculously pointless exercise - you're getting rid of a car you know is OK for one that potentially has all kinds of issues.

Add to this that any dealer selling an 05 plate car will more than likely make a fuss of any repairs, referring you to a useless warranty and denying you SOGA rights.

Remove the 100k barrier, it's nonsense. If you're only moving for the 2 year age difference that's incredibly ill-conceived.

Also as pointed out anything that age with a lot less than 100k is highly suspicious - you could well be buying a clocked car and at the end of the day it'll have all the problems an 8 year old car will, with the added 'low mileage' tax daft people pay.

Sat in slow traffic for 2 miles each way per day for the school run the exhaust will be knackered, alternator will be as worn as a 200k motorway mile example, DPF (if fitted) will be clogged... you get the picture.

Seriously, lift the mileage cap or increase your budget. Go newer and more miles or more expensive.
