Can I move my mobile number to PAYG?

Hi all,
I'm looking to save a bit of money on my mobile phone, as I don't find I am using it as much as I used to.
My questions are:
1) Can I move my number (at the end of my contract, obviously) to a PAYG SIM?
2) Which network is best for needing to top up the phone the least? I don't want to top it up very much, just enough to be able to receive calls and be able to make calls in an emergency.
Thanks,
DDDK

You can change your number over to pay as you go when your contract is ended, you just ask for the PAC Code and when you get your pay as you go sim card call the network up and they will port the number onto pay as you go when you give them the PAC Code, as for the topping up most (not sure if all) sim cards require you to make an outgoing call once every 180 days to keep the sim cative, that means you can top up £10 and not have to top up again as long as you make a call once every 180 days, most pay as you go's will give you deals like 300 free text messages per month but you do have to top up a minimum of £10 per month to get those free messages. But if you dont want to top up £10 per month you dont have to, you just wont get the free messages.0 -
Yes, it's not hard to move your number to Pay as u Go but make sure you work out your sums before you do.
By either going for an upgrade or a new contract in many cases you can sell the new handset and just put your new sim in your old phone and it will work out much cheaper than PayG. Loads of great deals out there.0
