PC speakers gone bust (Logitech Z313)

  • Thanks for the reply.

Don't know how to use a multimeter & i'm not even sure we have one at home. As said, i'm an electrical dummy.

Nothing plugged in new. Literally what happened was i was sat back in my chair (so no knocking of the desk) watching a film trailer. Everything was good. Just as the gun was fired in the trailer, instead of noise it went silent. The timing was perfect, so i thought it was part of the trailer ... until i saw peoples mouths then moving & no noise coming out.

Everything is as it was - the button makes the same noise, same feel, it just doesn't put any sound out of the speakers.

Contacted Logitech & this is their response...

Well i can verify that the system IS connected correctly & i have tested with another socket. Box ticked.
Umm, i don't pretend to be an electrical expert, but does holding the input in your hand short it? I didn't think it did. Isn't this when you touch it to say another metal surface? Or am i wrong? I'm terrible with electronics, but i didn't think just holding the jack would short it? Either way it doesn't buzz.

the human body has a small electrical charge, and touching the jack can cause feedback on the speakers, which i guess is what they are asking for
Do they know their speakers? How can i change the power cord? I can't.

sounds like there might be different revisions of the speakers (not that uncommon) some having a deteachable cable

But it could just be a generic response, pretty much all technical support will start of with the generic response to eliminate the common problems.
  • Well good on Logitech - they say they can't help me as they're 12 month out of warranty

However they're offering me 35% off if i want to buy a new set.

I'm undecided now - do i go for another set of Z313 (as they were good when they were working), or do i try a different set, such as the Z323.

Due to the power light not being lit, exempts the computer being at fault really, It's probably a pretty easy fix, as they were working at the time they failed. Was it loud sound at the time it failed?

For the price of new speakers (the speakers would work, the subwoofer has this electronics, so you can reuse the speakers, as they are plugged in seperately)

I'm willing, as you are not electronics savvy, if you send me the sub woofer, to try to fix it for you, if you pay p&p to me, if I can fix it send me a gratis payment, plus price of parts (maybe under a £1) plus p&p back..if I can't fix it, bin it. So for the cost of postage, to and back, plus say £10 for my time? or send the £10 to charity? Your choice.
  • Thanks for the offer, though i've bought a new set of speakers in between my last post & your response.

I was persuaded to shell out a bit (lot) more & go for the Logitech Z623's. See what they're like. Got them for under £100 so not bad.

I may chuck the Z313s on eBay as spares/repair.
