PC speakers gone bust (Logitech Z313)

I have some Logitech 2.1 speakers. I bought them years ago but only started using them last year or so. I haven't used them a great deal & i mainly use them with the headphones in.

Anyway, i was just watching a trailer tonight & they suddenly went quiet. No idea why. Then i noticed the power light was off.

Story short, they now no longer work on their own - only with the earphones plugged in to them.

Any idea what the problem is?

If you need new speakers i've just got these from Argos and i'm pleased with them.

How are they powered? Mains? USB?

    Mains.

There's screws on the plug & also the power control switch thingy that leads to the subwoofer thing.

I would've thought though - if there was a problem with the mains plug, then the headphones wouldn't work either when i plug them into the power control thingy?

The headphone jack on the speakers will still work even when the mains is switched off, more the or less the same as an 3.5mm extension cable.

Check the fuse on the main cord.

  • Well i replaced the fuse with a 5A fuse we had (new) & it still doesn't work.

Wonder if it's something to do with the power switch on the control box thingy.

Strange though as it happened - i was watching a trailor & just as the gun was fired in the trailor, and you'd expect the bang noise, that's the exact moment all sound went. I thought it was part of the trailor, but obviously not.

if you dont find a way to fix them, i would suggest contacting Logitech and seeing if they can do anything. They are usually pretty good
  • Contacted Logitech & this is their response...
Could we ask you some questions that can help us solve your issue?
    - Did you verified if the Logitech Speaker System Z313 is connected correctly together and have you tested the system with another AC socket?
Well i can verify that the system IS connected correctly & i have tested with another socket. Box ticked.
    - Does the Logitech Speaker System Z313 makes buzzing sound, when you hold the 3,5 mm jack input in your hand (when you shorten the input 3,5 mm jack)?
Umm, i don't pretend to be an electrical expert, but does holding the input in your hand short it? I didn't think it did. Isn't this when you touch it to say another metal surface? Or am i wrong? I'm terrible with electronics, but i didn't think just holding the jack would short it? Either way it doesn't buzz.
    - Do you have the Logitech Speaker System Z313 with hardwired power cable part, or you can try to change the power cord part, to see, if this is the cause to your issue?
Do they know their speakers? How can i change the power cord? I can't.

I have the same speakers, and have had similar issue; but not no power light.

If you can hear from the control, with no power, via headphones, I wasn't aware that you could do that.

Plugging in another device that uses audio, via USB, overrides the speakers, and you have to mess about with audio settings in control panel to restore; have you plugged a webcam or anything usb recently?

Regarding the powerlight, it is most likely that the powerswitch isn't latching, or has gone open circuit. Spray the switch with wd40 (when switched off/disconnected), and repeatedly press switch, can you hear it latching? Otherwise, if you are confident of testing it, check that the switch works by a multimeter.

    Good luck!
