    Well, judging by this thread, it could show intention to avoid being harassed.

    Not suggesting that that's the case, just that he could easily argue it.

    An update on this.

    My son sent a letter before action last week to his parents address and a cheque for the full amount arrived from the guy today. No accompanying note, just the cheque.

    As long as it clears without bouncing, I'm happy with the outcome.

    Thanks to everyone who helped with advice and suggestions.
