HELP!! I recently lodged 4 cheques value of around £350, they did not show on my account ,so I went to my branch of Barclays and they say they have been lost. What can I do to get recompence from the bank, also the manager treated me as if it was my fault that they went missing and spoke down to me as if I was scum.
Any suggestions on my next actions please:mad:

You need to get details of the cheques.
Then:
1. ask barclays trace the cheques in writing and state at the letter you want a reply within 14 days otherwise you will take the matter further. Send the letter by recorded delivery.
2. Escalate the matter through their complaints procedure.
Also ask the people who wrote the cheques if they have been debited from their accounts. If they have ask them if they could ask their banks to chase who the payment went to. (Some banks say no unless it's a large organisation.)I'm not cynical I'm realistic

My bank lost £2025 of mine over 2 weeks ago. They have no interest trying to locate it for me. Everytime I call I am told something different. I have a feeling I won't be seeing that money again...0

banks think they are a law unto themselves, something needs to be done about it, could martin help?0

this happens more than you would think! Banks have specialist departments in their cheque operations area to handle such eventualities. If the cheques were handled by the cashier then they will have produced an electronic entry in their teller system. The banks exchange the electronic information (called IBDE) and then settle using the physical paper cheques.
So, there are usually 2 error situations that can occur:- Cheque but no IBDE; or IBDE but no cheque. Yours would be IBDE but no Cheque. So, contact your bank; ask them to connect you with someone in their cheque processing operations who handles "Missing & Frees" - thats the name used (Missing refers to the paper and Free refers to the data).
Good luck0 -
Will do as you said and contact the bank (Barclays) and see if they come up with anything concrete, if not I will quote what you have stated0
