I know there are a couple of threads on Dacias but none seem to go into the specifics of the actual car other than to say theyre not bad cars... although i assume thats not a bad car for the price.

My query is...
im debating getting a kia sportage.
However for the massive difference in price im wondering whether its worth giving one a bash. Im looking at the Sandero Stepway or Duster.

I do a fair bit of driving so i want something which is comfortable, doing a test drive probably wont give me an accurate reflection so im hoping someone on here can answer whether that is possible or not really... the same goes for the kia i suppose. So if anyone can answer on that front that would be helpful too.

Have you priced up a Duster to the same equipment level as the Sportage you are interested in? Also bump up the warranty to compare.

Take an extended test drive. Offer to pay for the petrol used and take it out for several hours.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Would be on the short list to replace the Panda.

I agree, take both for test drives. Kias come with a 7 year warranty so it does give you the peace of mind should something go wrong, though I believe Dacia do a similar thing (I think its 3 years though I could be wrong...) for a resonable price.

I've seen quite a few Duster's around here so it must be fairly popular. Take them both out for a test drive and see if you could happlily live with a Dacia for the savings.

It's going to be a bit rougher than a Kia, if you are doing high mileage you need to think about that, for a runabout though it would be a no brainer.

I'd say it probably will and the only way you'll be able to decide which car you'd prefer to be in on a day to day basis.

Agree with this. Actually thinking about it though, the Dacia might be more reliable than you think as the 1.5 dci engine has been in just about everything from the new Merc A-class to the Qashqai etc. its just to live with day in day out the Sportage is likely to have a nicer cabin and ride better, etc.

Like I said in my previous comment I would try both and see.

My only thought with these is they are still very new to market.

Will we see issues after 50,000 miles with DPFs or EGRs or suspension etc? If it has been built to a low price I would hope it isn't at the expense of reliability.

They seem like good motors. No frills, very MSE but I would want to hear from a wider base of longer term owners otherwise I think it is a bit of a risk.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Seating is one area where substantial costs are saved. Our i20 is great for the money and what we use it for, but the seats offer very little lumber support, important if you spend a long time in the car.
