Why do solicitors have to make things so difficult?

And be so arrogant as to not even acknowledge emails, calls etc.

We are supposed to exchange today - complete on Friday..... our solicitor is driving us

Apologies..... I needed a rant.

And I don't even feel any better for it :(

  • I am in exactly the same position right this second EvaCustard and it's staggering beyond belief the incompetence I'm dealing with right now.

I just phoned my sol and was told she was waiting for the vendor's sol to contact her. Why isn't she ******* chasing him up? Then the EA phoned the vendor's solicitor on my behalf only to be told "I'm waiting for her to contact me".

Then two seconds ago she emails me to say she can't do anything until my BUYER'S sol contacts her, yet my buyer says he's been trying to contact her ALL DAY.

    I'm paying £2,500 for this.

It's comforting to know it's not just us.

We had the same situation on Friday, I ended up speaking to our vendor to get them to make their solicitor speak to ours.

    Nightmare.

I do have sympathy with conveyancers. Its a stressful job and lets be honest communication is not on there priority list. Most of them are normal people just doing there best.

I admit to having used ambush tactics on them to try and get any sort of work response and the whole thing is very very frustrating.

Sadly moving is stressful enough without the lack of any communication from one of the key parts of the chain.

I think it's a common experience. Most conveyancing seems to be done in reactive rather than proactive mode i.e. they never actively chase anything, they just wait.

The reason being, I suspect, is solicitors never turn down a conveyancing job, and therefore have far too many cases on the go at any one time.

    I sympathise, I truly do.

I am seething with fury at our buyer's solicitor, have been for the last 3 weeks. I have never felt this stressed before in my life, not even when we had 4 x close family beareavements in the space of 6 months 2 years ago.

The life of a conveyancer is a pretty boring one I'd imagine, so causing mayhem may be their way of spicing things up a bit?

    What a thought :rotfl:
  • Eva, I am also in the same position! A fairly useless solicitor on my side (seller) and the buyer's solicitor is off the scale - rude, arrogant, telling lies, 'forgetting' to send a crucial document for a week, etc. We have been waiting to exchange every day for the past 2 weeks, and every time, it is him throwing spanners in the works, by asking more enquiries (when we have already pleaded with him to do so more quickly); asking the same thing 3 times, etc etc. He's so arrogant he won't even respond to his own client!!

The stress got to me so much that I woke up with a stress headache today and by the end of yet another day of no update from anyone, I had to have a quiet cry in the toilets at work. The whole process is appalling; I don't think I can ever face it again. And still no end in sight...

I got to the point today of wanting to email the buyer's solicitor directly to vent my frustration (I have his email address). Would this blow my sale out of the water? It's so frustrating knowing that he is the incompetent idiot causing all this stress, and not being allowed to contact him directly (obviously, I was going to be more diplomatic than that!)

WHY OH WHY does this ALWAYS happen on a friday?
Because the solicitors are shut on saturday and sunday!!!
Because you cannot get a plumber, electrician, builder, etc on a saturday/sunday without paying BIG money !!!!
No body at the estate agents at the weekend who can help you!!!
