Is upgrading to BT Infinity worth it?

So my home town has now got FTTC which is allowing me the option to upgrade to infinity.

Pros:
Faster internet (They reckon 59Mbps)
Faster D/L speeds

Cons:
18 month BT contract - Only 2 months into a contract with BT.
Works out over 18 months £15.33 more a month than currently paying due to losing 6 months free broadband.

Is it worth it? I know the answer is only I can decide but to those of you have made the jump, do you regret it?

Thanks

What do you use the internet for?
What broadband speeds have you got at the moment?
If you are only 2 months into a contract, it would be better to do it now, rather than later down the line. It should only mean a new contract.
  • Internet used for Online gaming, Lovefilm & Netflix.
Downloading from Steam and PSN Store.
    Browsing on 1 PC, 1 Laptop, 2 Phones & 1 Tablet.

It's all down to convenience isn't it.

Do I want to pay 50p a day for quicker Steam downloads and HD films?

    Currently on upto 16Mbps.
Chose BT for my broadband purely because an engineer came to hire a water pump off me and told me he was working on fibre lines at the exchange.

You can't just upgrade a contract with BT you have to start a new one even though all they do is make a little change in the green box.

Fibre at the exchange does not mean it's available to your home yet-it depends on when it's enabled at your particular street cab. My exchange commenced FTTC two years ago, it's not coming to my cab now until Spring 2014-if ever.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Infinity is already available in my cabinet.

Worth asking when they will be shipping home hub 5 , think it removes the need for a separate modem for FTTC

  • BT Call Centre didn't have a clue about Home Hub 5.

I was informed that home Hub 4 had just been released.

I have made my decision. Since I need to start a new contract to get Infinity I will wait until my remaining 4 months free broadband is used up. Make do with 16Mbps until christmas!

Or you can of course get FTTC more cheaply from several resellers, including Plusnet and Sky.

  • Unfortunately I am 2 months into a 12 month contract.

I was misinformed that it would only be BT with fibre at the start.
