Good luck and let us know how you get on :-) :-)

Thank you. Tina put no pressure on us whatsoever and even told us that even if we decided not to go with Melanie Giles and chose to use another IVA company; we could always phone Tina for advice. How amazing is that!:D
  • Aww it is great when somebody goes out of their way to make themselves available for you as we all know stress and worries are not limited to Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm!

Some larger companies are not in a position to offer this level of service and client contact, this is where smaller companies often (but not always) stand out :-)

Definitely - we went to the cinema at the weekend which is the first time we've been out or done anything non-IVA related. Both of us were still stressing and couldn't concentrate on the film; but hubby spoke to Tina yesterday and we're still stressing but Tina has helped us feel a lot better. Also apparently our SOA will go past Melanie too - first class service or what!:D

...Great choice of IP. Good luck on your IVA journey.

That is the level of customer service ALL IVA companies should offer.

Both Melanie and Tina regularly post consistently excellent advice on another IVA forum (which also has contributors from other IVA firms, the CAB & Stepchange among others).

Shame the admin. at MSE don't seem to allow the private sector to post here - it would help balance the forum, and put some of the mis-information to bed that's for sure.

(Don't get me wrong, I know these forums must not be allowed to become sales pitches for IVA firms - and I am sure there are a lot of poor practices employed including hard-selling. But if people are allowed to criticise the private sector, it should be allowed a voice to put its point across or defend any allegations).

Definitely - the advice you gave us about reading up on reviews was probably the best bit of advice anyone could give. Without checking the reviews; we would have been stuck with an IVA company that was making life more difficult for us. So thank you so much for suggesting we check the reviews.

Oooh! Would love to check out that Forum being newbies to the world of IVA. Are you allowed to PM me the web address???

    Couldn't agree with you more!
  • Someone said to me recently, that an IVA can last longer than a marriage...... Sad but true so you want to be sure you are choosing the right company for you as you will need to be dealing with them for at least 5 years :-)

That was a very wise person who told you that! Wise in two ways - the first as you said is dealing with the IVA company for 5 years - the second reason because I really do believe if you don't talk to your other half it could quite easily leave to marriage breakdown. Luckily for me hubby and I talk lots so hopefully we should be able to survive the storm!

    Hi UTMNII

Sales pitches for IVA firms, mmm, interesting point, how long would it take before that happened I wonder?

I have yet to really see an IVA firm who say that they are not better than the others and so on...

Maybe I see things a little different at times and the 'anti IVA' paranoia sets in a little too often:)

Food for thought though and you make a few fair points

My take and innocent banter as always
  • Hi Aliscrapper,

Sorry, not allowed to plug other specific forums (had my wrists slapped previously). Tina will tell you though.

    Hi DC,

I always enjoy reading/debating your posts. I agree with your points made on this thread, and as you say all these IVA firms reckon they are the best. (Suppose that's the same in any industry though). Hence why I am a great believer in customer reviews.

These forums are all about 'opinions', and I wouldn't say yours is necessarily 'anti-iva paranoia'. I would describe your postings on IVAs as cautionary. You do - quite rightly, emphasise the need for careful consideration to anyone considering entering an IVA.

This is important because near enough 40% of IVA’s are ‘terminated’ (fail). How many times have we come across ‘I wish I’d gone bankrupt instead’ type posts, from IVA customers with little in the way of assets, who arguably may have been mis-sold the product? For example.

It’s all about potential IVA customers researching their options thoroughly I believe that some debate on this forum with the private sector – not least on subjects such as: hard / mis-selling, not properly considering the customers full options etc. could be useful accordingly.
