We have a microwave oven, which has a grill and convection oven built in, but it has just packed in .... the turntable won't turn.
Is it worth trying to fix it ?
No doubt electrical repair companies have a high initial fee, for their inspection, then, if they can fix the problem, the cost will probably be high too.
The oven cost £169, about 4 years ago.
thanks for any advice

Personally, a microwave would be one of the things I'd never attempt to repair.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Probably the motor.
£40 - £50 (min!) labour + parts = £100 + ...............your call.........0 -
Just to be clear .. I wasn't going to try and fix it myself ... I was considering taking it to a 'repair shop'
I would buy a new one. I've found microwave repair shops to be utterly incompetent.
Just last week I took a Sharp microwave oven to a Sharp-approved repair centre. The problem was very simple: LCD display backlight now working. It took me 15 minutes to explain the problem in the shop.
Two days later they call me and ask me what the problem was, even though it was written down on the job sheet! They then said they might have fixed the problem and for me to come and take a look.
I did. The backlight was still not working. Both the shop administrator and the engineer still didn't understand what the problem actually was, even though they said they had fixed it.
They wouldn't hand back the oven until I paid a £20 fee for not having the fault repaired and loads of new scratches on the brushed aluminium cover.
They then said that the entire display would have to be changed which would cost around £180 + VAT!!!
My advice: buy a new one if you can afford to do so!Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0 -

Actually I don't think so
Yesterday while I was trying to preheat the oven the motor started turning, then the turntable stopped, then there was a clicking sound ...
as if the motor was trying to turn the plate around, but something was stopping it.
I've found a local repair company, tomorrow I'll give them a call and see what their charges are ... if it's too much I'll just buy a new one.
As it lasted about 4 years and we used it nearly every day, as out main oven .. leaving the normal oven for Christmas Dinner etc, it has lasted well. At about £45 / year, that's not too bad.0
