This is good evidence of why people might use a pseudonym. The I have read your previous threads post

It's also a good example of why it's pointless to use a pseudonym.

The circumstances are so unusual - not to say unique - that it would be immediately apparent who the author was.

However, if people are using a pseudonym so that they aren't recognised by others, it would make more sense if:

    - they didn't announce that they are a regular user, using a pseudonym

    - they didn't give so much detail about their personal circumstances that "those who know them" can probably identify them straight away

Of course, if there weren't so many "I'm using a pseudonym" posts, MSE probably wouldn't have enough of a thread count to justify on 'Family' board. Never mind the number of sub-boards that they are currently running.

Plus, it keeps up the 'view' count. And the 'number of users' count! There are probably only about 25 regular users of MSE, if you count the actual human beings rather than user names ;-)

There was the recent tayforth one she had a good reason to use a pseudonym and there wasnt a single post on the thread accusing her of being a troll.
I have seen others as well I agree it is either deeply personal or kids on holiday that use em.
I personally can't be bothered is too much effort.

I wouldnt automatically think someone was a troll if they used a different username, but Ive seen some people suggest that people are if they start a thread with their very first post on the boards.

I agree, people really shouldnt need to say they are a regular poster, doesnt matter to me one way or another really.
