I want my kerb dropped

Hi,

I want to get the kerb dropped outside my house. The council have told me i have to pay for a quote, then the price could be around £1000 for it to be done.

Does anyone know how i can get around this?:p

is your house owned by the council?
do you want it dropped for disabled access?

I got mine done a couple of years ago. To get the kerb lowered and the front lock-blocked cost me £2000. £450 of that was for the kerb. I paid £30 to the council to get permission. Our council has a list of approved builders who you have to work with (because you can't do it yourself! ;) )

Hi, i had my kerb dropped a couple of years ago, the council gave us a list of approved contractors, i eventually managed to get some quotes (for free) These ranged from £450 to £1,250 !

Did you have to pay the council to get the list of contractors??

why i was asking because if it was for disabled access you could apply for a disability grant.

i'd follow the other replies advice and get permission from the council and use their builders.

I didn't have to pay to get the list of contractors, but I did have to pay £30 to the council (towards administration I suppose). Someone from the council came up and had a look where the kerb was needed to be dropped. I don't know if all councils operate the same though.

Vandals are scum! We got a new to us car and within a month someone had keyed it and the whole side had to be resprayed. That's the reason we took our car off the street too.
  • 1. Make a driveway
    2. Place a piece of wood (length of wood = Width of driveway) at the base of the existing kerd like so:

    |
    |XXXX
    |XXXX
    |XXXX
    <-- Road

X = Wood, viewed as if you had your face side-on to the kerb, looking along it.

    3. Enjoy the fact that your will now go up the driveway fine, and that your wallet is not a grand lighter! :D

Cheap maybe, but nothing to stop people parking infront of your drive. Then your shiney new drive isnt too much use.
