We have only one side of a story.
With the best intentions at heart there may be details omitted/ unknown which could change the slant of the story.

We do not want to open this site to any potential of legal action (although that's unlikley), but the traffic from this site to a link can be monitored and traced back.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

None of you are addressing the point I made in the OP

The problem here is that this is allowed on all the other boards on MSE (at least those not BG'd by Soolin) On whose authority is S/he acting? I'd like an answer as to why the Ebay board is special.

    Soolin,

So what you are saying is you have no explicit authority to remove people's "name and shame links". Yet you do so, even though you must also realise that every other board (certainly all the ones I've been on here) on MSE allows naming and shaming.

A BG can remove posts that breach rules. However those posts are only deleted from the visible threads, final decisions are always taken by the moderating team.

But you don't remove posts, you edit them.

Please answer the points I make.

The difference is that on here naming and shaming tends to be personal, ie Fred bloggs ebay id 'freddybloggy' (how I hope there isn't a real user with that name!!) is a thief who has started a paypal chargeback as they claim not to have received an item.

On for instance the vent board posts that went along similar lines, ie 'jenny small bird in the corner shop stole my kids pocket money and is a thief' would also be removed.

However, as per my original post all my decisions can be questioned by reference to the full moderating team. If they decide that I have removed a post that should remain, it can be reinstated.

Aren't the name and shame posts on other boards more about companies? Whereas if there were a name and shame post here it would be individuals being discussed. I think that is a bit different because companies are better able to defend themselves and MSEers can search the internet for other opinions about a company. I fear that a name and shame section could be abused. They used to have one on a crafts forum I used to visit to expose dodgy crafts-selling ebayers and one poor soul was nominated for the board by another seller who was selling the same items & wanted to eliminate the competition. This board does name and shame people in a way because people post the item numbers of dodgy auctions so it doesn't take much detective work to find out who the seller is being discussed.

It is obvious by your evasive answers, that you are doing this (editing not deleting) without having ok'd it with Martin or his team first. If I am mistaken - I apologise but why haven't you said so in the 13 -14 posts this thread has now been going for?

You have invited me to take this further twice now, and as I am getting nowhere here, I shall take it further. It is what I understood to be a cornerstone of MSE that we can name and shame here.

Any forum that has a name and shame board is taking a huge risk as it only takes one mistake or malicious post and the owners of the board could find themselves in court fighting a costly libel action.

Wig, you might find this sub-forum helpful.

When I first joined, I didn't realise that MSE is not a free speech forum, that its run on a shoestring without the owner or his helpers having the time or resource to justify themselves to every user. I'm not saying you don't realise all this, just, that knowing these ground rules makes it much easier for me to understand that sometimes things happen without explanation.

companies exist on ebay, companies in general (everywhere) are large and small only the large ones can afford the time to take defensive action. However large and small companies get named and shamed on MSE.

No, they get edited out of the posts.
