I phoned the retailer the same afternoon to tell them. They were extremely apologetic, even though it's not really their fault
Yes it is. The courier is their contractor. They selected them to do their deliveries, so how they perform is the retailer's responsibility. If they are using a poor contractor they need to do something about it. Numerous other couriers are available - it's not as though there is only one.
The company I work for used to use City-Link to take all our parcels. About 9 months ago we ditched them because the service had become so shoddy we were It's probably no co-incidence that they lost millions of pounds over the past few years and were recently sold for £1. I really don't expect them to be around much longer.0 -
Yes, you're right, I think I was being a little kind to the retailer as I know they are a good company. So, I spoke with the retailer and have laboured the point that the service wasn't just poor, it was completely unacceptable.
City Link have shown themselves to have staff who are dishonest as well as incompetent. I don't say this lightly either. They indicated that the parcel was, once again, delivered this morning. I know this isn't true because the parcel arrived about ten minutes ago and was left with a neighbour!
The retailer was less than impressed and will be taking the issue up with them. I also asked that they consider viewing the various feedback sites to see for themselves what a terrible service they run.
I would write to them, but I don't see the point, I'll probably just receive a standard, "...sorry you have had a blah blah blah...," letter in return. Suffice the comments and experiences posted here to show others that they should perhaps consider carefully before using this shambolic service.0 -
They asked me what colour my front door was, I told them white, and he instantly said "oh yes, the driver's definitely been to a white front door this morning. I can see it right here in the system in front of me!"
If that's true I will eat my hat! If it happens again I'm going to tell them my front door's blue next time. :rotfl:
I dont know about that courier but some do take pictures of the door to prove its the right house it was left at.0 -
city link 'tried' delivering me an item 3 times (no card left any time).
when i rang they said they had proof as they had the door colour - however, each visit had a different door colour........(all wrong)0 -
Presumably the problem is that in order to keep their prices low City Link pay minimum wage and thus don't find it easy to get staff and cannot discipline them when they lie to both their employer and thus to the customer.0

Perhaps. But so do michelin-star kitchens and they don't send out shoddy food. Maybe that's comparing apples with pears though.
Looking into the business a little further, it's probably not a company we will have to put up with for much longer. Seems like they are sinking rapidly. I can't say I'm surprised. No wonder Rentokil sold their "problem child" off for a meagre £1. I'd have given it away with a penny-chew myself.
Boy...they really did get under my skin didn't they...0 -
I've had the same problem with Citylink, "delivery attempted, card left".. I've emailed them that not only was no card left, but I was in the house all day, apart from 1 hour.
I'm expecting them to come back that delivery was attempted in that hour.. What I've kept back is that the lady across the road was painting her front porch then, and didn't see any delivery vans!
But the main problem was that I'd indicated in the delivery instructions that the parcels (there is another one that seems to be missing in transit) were to be left in the passageway at the side of the house, but they're saying that they are signed-for only, and I can't take time off to sit around and wait for a delivery I can't depend on.. And the "local depot is a 50-mile round trip away, so collection will mean time and money - especially if I have to go twice!
I'm tempted to just send them back!0 -
I had a similar experience with DPD recently, paid for a specific timeslot, claim they put a card through - no such thing!
So hard to find a number for customer services as well but eventually got through. They asked me what colour my front door was, I told them white, and he instantly said "oh yes, the driver's definitely been to a white front door this morning. I can see it right here in the system in front of me!"
If that's true I will eat my hat! If it happens again I'm going to tell them my front door's blue next time. :rotfl:
Next time ask for more information from the picture i.e. plant pots etc.0 -
I have had similar experiences with City Link. No courier is perfect, but from my experience trying out different couriers for business use, DPD, UPS and DHL seem to be the most reliable overall.0
