city-link. Simply awful.

I don't often feel like venting, but this has really annoyed me. So much so, I can't even bring myself to capitalize the name of this disgusting company.

An item I ordered with an upgraded Saturday delivery has not arrived - and not for the first time - yet is showing as 'Delivery Attempted, Card Left'.

Naturally, there is no card, and unless I have been exisiting on an alternate plane for most of the day, there was no attempt to alert my sentient self to the eagerly awaited parcel. I suspect the driver was yet again employing the 'stealth knock from a far' with pillowed hands 'n all.

Why the hell should such companies be allowed to get away with this sort of abysmal, not to mention disingenuous, service.

It will now be unhelpfully scheduled for delivery on Tuesday when I won't be home. Instead, I will be at work, which involves me locating the addresses of the people I wish to visit during the course of that work, so that they may be assisted by my presence.

Rant over. Thanks for listening.

I can only sympathise as we've all been there. They all seem the same (possibly with the exception of UPS and DHL). "Attempted delivery" just means they drove past and decided there was nowhere to park.

Nice use of disingenuous and sentient - obviously wasn't a thesaurus you're awaiting!

Yes, I've also not had any issues with either of those before.

    Complain to the retailer.

'Attempted' delivery, also known as they couldn't be bothered loading your item into the van that morning

I phoned the retailer the same afternoon to tell them. They were extremely apologetic, even though it's not really their fault, and said they would chase up the courier to see what happened. As good as the retailer is (I've ordered from them before and they have good customer service generally) I suspect they will say city link did indeed mess the whole order up (read lied about attempting delivery) and that they haven't given any specific information about why, or how, by which time I will hopefully have received the item anyway.

I will write to the retailer and tell them of my experience, and I intend to do the same with the courier, but I'm sure it will all be to very little avail.

It's the dishonesty that I abhor more than the incompetence. The latter can sometimes be put right; the former tend to never change their ways.

yes i had a strange issue with city link when we had that bad winter the other year.
Ordered some xmas decorations which the seller uses city link, these items got as far as our local depot. out of all local couriers citylink were the only ones that refused to send any of their vehicles out even when the snow was clearing. my parcel was in the local depot for 3 weeks ( paid for next day delivery) the DHL depot is next to the CL deport and DHL were delivering, so the week before xmas after many calls to the retailer and even the CL depot, the retailer offered me a choice of waiting for the items or a refund and they would get CL to returned the parcel to them. I opted for the refund which i got within a few days and the CL tracking showed the parcel as 'returning to sender', sop thought well thats sorted. then guess who turned up on 29th Dec. it was CL with a parcel, as i was expecting other parcels and nothing on the outerbox to say where it was from, i signed for it. when i opened it then i saw it was the xmas decs. Called the retailer on 2nd Jan as they were closed for the new year. They were amazed as they had told CL to return it to them and the tracking system stated this. They then told me just to keep them for all the problems that was caused. I even offered to pay for them again, but told me no as they would claim from CL

I don't order from anywhere, where Citylink are the courier, because I too have suffered the non existant attempt to deliver and the usual lies of card left etc...

Sadly some sites don't say who the courier is :(

    ---

IIRC the nearest depot for me is just outside Swindon, and they wanted me to collect a £1.20 CD from there when it failed to get delivered from Amazon [back when I was Prime]. Guess what, I said to send it back (and 2 weeks later they finally did)

I received a free Prime subscription last year with a Kindle and thought, great, sounds good. After ordering around half a dozen items (books, cd's etc) and not receiving any of them in 'Prime' time I didn't bother taking up the offer.

If companies - or more to the point couriers - can't keep to their promises, then don't sell or push a service that doesn't deliver the goods...literally.

I had a similar experience with DPD recently, paid for a specific timeslot, claim they put a card through - no such thing!

So hard to find a number for customer services as well but eventually got through. They asked me what colour my front door was, I told them white, and he instantly said "oh yes, the driver's definitely been to a white front door this morning. I can see it right here in the system in front of me!"
If that's true I will eat my hat! If it happens again I'm going to tell them my front door's blue next time. :rotfl:

well let me think about this for a while.:think::think:

Got it! 99.9% of uPVC doors are white, so that proves nothing
